CortezDTV
Removable baskets on all subs! Rusty u allreay know I love the 8" idea, I've been wishing you had them for a while..... Honestly I just don't think the 8 needs work, its an amazing little sub as it is! I have a bunch of them, one is been in a tline one a 1.2k at 2 ohms (780rms) for over a year no issues. I've put a saz 1500d to one of them.... even played around with my 5k on 2, only thing that happened was I seperated the spider from the tripple joint.... in my opionon not the subs fault, it never stoped playing and I threw way over 4x of rated to the pair.... 1 Quote SCSB Santa Cruz Speaker Box Build logs: Daily Driver Lemon Marquis 2 american bass 750.1s 350.4 on 14 focal 6.5s sq 945 on 4 hertz tweeters Mystery subs http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 The Mustang 'dubbed' Shirley the project from bullet holes to badass http://www.stevemead...cond-skin-time/

the_garynator
3" coil wont wont work in a 6.5" spider? We're talking an 8" subwoofer, right? 8" woofer with 8" spider, problem fixed! hahaha, j/k I would love to see a 2.5" coil (but as long as it handles the power, 2" would be fine too), a lot of throw, high roll surround, underhung design with a big beastly magnet for under $200. On another note, can you do an 8 layer flatwind coil? if not, what would be the limiting factor? EDIT: the reason I say underhung, is we all know 8's are really easy to bottom out if you say, accidentally turn on the wrong song. I'd rather bottom out the spider or surround than beat the coil up. Also, any idea what Jacob's running for a spider on the sa8v2s? that basket looks pretty crazy. BastardRam ATX
Man, I am getting super stoked on these 8's right now. I may just have to wait on my rebuild of my truck until these go into production and throw 2 or 4 8's in my single cab. That being said, I am all for a 2" coil and a tall surround with the XL cooling. even a 2.5" seems like a little bit of overkill on an 8" sub, at least to me. But then again I don't build subs for a living. Edit: also the logo on the basket spokes looks really fucking good man. the_garynator
Removable baskets on all subs! hahahaha. this reminds me of something else. How about a field replaceable spider/cone/surround? It would be cool to be able to swap my lvl 5s from 18's to 12s or w/e and back without having to completely recone and junk whatever it was. is something like that even remotely feasible? 1 Quote Current Build: Project Flexington: 157.6db @ 37hz Parallel 6th order walk through, DC Neo Elite 18s, 4 DC 5.0ks, JY Lithium, 12 banks of XS Caps Old Builds:150db and HAIRTRICKs from 2x 12" Power Acoustik Mofos (6th order blow through) ;<p>Roadmaster Wagon Build - DC LVL 6 M3, Kicker Warhorse ; Godzilla swapped 240sx ; 6th Order Bandpass Alpine Type R 12 ; Fully loaded DC Level 5 18" 240sx

Bump4life
the DD2508 has a 2.5 inch coil. not sure what the SA-8 has. but if you want an 8 that competes it at least has to deal with the SA-8 first. In my opinion the DD2508 does not seem to popular. I dont see too much chatter on it. If I am wrong i would like to see some installs or other applications with it. i think you have to decide wht kind of 8 this is. Is it going for sound quality or SPL. is it possible to achieve both? Personally being a DD fan I love the look of that high roll surround and i think alpine's idea of the split spider sounds awesome. put themn together and you have a monster excurting 8 right? would the split spider make a 2.5 inch coil feasible? or even a 3 inch coil? is that necessary. Good ideas so far. I am always down to see the next best 8 inch sub. once one comes out id consider saving some space in my trunk.
