(Speculative) Amateur Build

Recommended Posts

Well it was the 250D that re-sparked my ideas of a build. It'll allow me to put it closer to where I sit, rather than on a cinder block by the window.

I went with AMD because of the price for an APU rather than a CPU and a separate GPU.

As for the SSD, I'm still not 100% sure about it. Everywhere I go for tips and ideas in building a PC, they say an SSD boot drive is the way to go and either get a HDD right from the start for the long term storage or get one later and migrate the files from the SSD (minus the OS obviously).

As for water cooling, I'm only getting a self-contained cpu cooler for the cleaner look down the road. But at the same time, I'll probably use the stock cooler for a bit before actually buying the H105. At this exact moment, I just want to upgrade what I'm working with now. But I also dont want to have too small of a power supply for my eventual upgrades to reach a mid grade gaming rig. No BF4 1080p or Crysis 3, granted. More along the lines of SC2, DayZ, Minecraft, etc.

It's reaching the point now that my current set up struggles with loading webpages if I have too many tabs open.

i5 has a built in GPU.

You're going to want at least a 550, 80 plus certified PSU if you're going to put video in there later.

This is what the H100i looks like in the N200 case

The case is actually almost as small as what you posted.

SSD is always better, bench testing against a standard 7200 RPM laptop drive, it was almost 5000% faster in some specs (Crystalmark) and IMO its well worth the few extra bones.

AMD CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113282 $59.99

The i5 is over 3x as much as the AMD.

And why all the dislike for the 250D. Is there something I'm missing?

Also, as for the SSD, would a SSHD be a good investment? I havent looked too far into it yet, but price-wise, it doesnt look bad.

i5 is at least 33% faster at everything. I had a bunch of sites to link to back this up, but IE has gone full retard on this laptop.

Nothing against the case, but mini ITX builds are a PIA, even for experienced builders. The case I linked is small, but still has room to get around and the same footprint.

I don't like the hybrid drives, just like with anything else, you get what you pay for. Cutting corners on an SSD is a good way to loose data.

I'd prefer to go with Intel, honestly. Out of all the tips and tricks guides and videos, only one even involved an AMD processor. It was the price that turned me away.

Is this a good quality SSD? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147248

As for the case, my big thing about it, is that everything I picked for this build is based around the 250D.

I wanted to go small for my current build, knowing that I didnt have any 3.5 inch drives was a big factor, and the 120mm radiator support in the front of the case was neat too.

The 250 is a good case, I just like my knuckles unscathed.

That SSD is a good choice.

Now that the SSD and CPU is settled, what's your thoughts on the PSU I posted? You said to aim in the 550 range and I shot a little high for headroom/possibility of keeping it if I ever go to a full-sized rig.

comparing an i5 to a dual core amd will always be fast. I don't even know why you would compare the two. It would be better to compare a AMD APU dual core with an i3. As far as the apu goes, I have built one for my grandmother and it's a fast system, and the integrated gpu is actually pretty decent, I mean you won't max out the game, but it will get the job done, and if your not doing heavy cpu dependent tasks the amd option is the way to go. As far as the build looks good.
