2011 Malibu 2.4l:

140 amp stock alternator

Stock front batt, group 27 I believe...4 Marine deep cell batteries group 31's similiar to DEKA's (each weighs around 60lbs)

Currently running a CT Sounds 7000.1 and a Soundstream Stealth stl 4.500

Big Three has been done

Have 2 runs of 1/0 OFC wire to back. One run to each dual bank of Batteries.

The battery Banks are connected to gether with mutiple runs of 1/0 OFC

From the dual banks there are three runs of 1/0 OFC to the 7000.1 and a 4 gauge run of OFC to the SS amp.

Car running resting voltage runs between 13.8 and 14.5 depending on what the hell the car wants to do

Lowest voltage I have seen so far wide open is 12.5ish...Havent been that high again on amp yet, spider glue failed on one of my Wardens, this has been fixed, but breaking them in more before going all out again :)

You can run almost any amount of wattage on a stock alternator is the battery bank is big enough... Niel Barber, Tommy Mckinnie, etc... usually don't even run their vehicle when they are playing 40,000+ Watts RMS.

The other thing to consider is what kind of vehicle it is. A Honda Civic might have a 65 amp alternator that charges at 13.8 volts, whereas a new Escalade will come stock with a 165 amp alternator that charges in the 14 volt range. Obviously the stock alternator on the Escalade will support over double the power that the Civic will in stock form, so you can't just lump all "stock alternators" into the same category.

The primary difference is the amount of time you can play at high volume levels before voltage drop becomes a problem. Having a high output alternator mainly reduces the amount of battery capacity you have to have, and increases the amount of time you can play the system at high volume before voltage drop becomes a problem. If you don't want to change out the alternator, you can always add more batteries to the bank, and charge the batteries when the vehicle is not in use to help make life easier on the stock alternator.

2000 Jeep Cherokee (XJ) 4.0/4X4

Stock 117a alt externally regulated

Sears Diehard Platinum battery

Big 3 done with 0 gauge on top of factory wiring (except that stupid braided thing, I replaced that)

0 gauge run to amps/grounds

PPI PC21400 (have also used Kicker ZR1000) + Pioneer PRS-D800

13v minimum on music when the regulator is being stupid and resting at 13.5, with test tones it was either 12.3 or 12.5 at idle. Keep in mind I am wired at 4ohm and nothing was turned on except the sound system and headlights.
