Will this overdue my 2 SA-12's?

Recommended Posts

I love these,"can I over power my subs" threads. Why do you find it necessary to drive double the RMS power to a sub. You gain NOTHING. It is not going to do anything magical when you throw double the RMS to them. What it has a GOOD likelihood of doing is sending a lot of extra heat. Granted that they are well built and can take tons of power, but why are so people so interested in this? It's it just so you can brag and say,"yeah I am running 1200 watts to each of my SA12's and they're taking it like champs"? Also, youre but very likely with efficiency and impedance rise to see the full 2400 watts anyway. Do you really want to be that customer that has the story,"I was told I could run 1200 watts to a sub rated for 600 watts and it blew, I have no idea why"? Please keep it simple and buy an amp that does 1200-1500 and call it a day.

no..

why do you answer like that? its almost tripling the RMS power @ 2 ohms

Because I have personally ran one on two sa-12s and know many others who have...you forget that you will not get close to the full 2400 watts on that amp after box rise and all....

you have pushd 2400 watts to a SA-12...

ok are you talking about 1 or 2? you said "I have 2 SA-12 D2's"

To push products to the limit. On the 3500 I believe each SA was getting around 900rms and it only got too hot at 23hz and lover

yes, if its running 2400w it's overpowering them...they are rated 600w rms and granted some people have run them on way more, doesn't mean everyone should...

I have ran subs at 3 and 4x MAX rated power without problems, but I wouldn't go around telling everyone that those subs could take triple RMS....

if you want to run 2400 watts to a pair of woofers get woofers rated for them. dont hope that you'll be able to run more than they are rated for to them.

Im guessing that the SA-12s are in your budget though right?
