n1ghtsn1p3r
Mechanical keyswitches last for about 50 million presses (per keyswitch). At least that's what Cherry claims on their MX keyswitches Membrane keyboards not quite as long (only number that I've found so far was about 15 million keystrokes per key). Exact timeframe in years depends on usage, maintenance, quality, etc. I've had my Razer Lycosa for about 3 years and I have some issues with keys not responding occasionally (moreso since I switched to Windows 8 ). I just want to upgrade from a membrane (Lycosa) to a mechanical (BlackWidow)Heck I've heard of some oldschool keyboards still going strong after about 20-30 years Edit: Here's some Cherry MX switches that I have lying around (added O-rings to quiet down the loud "bottoming out" noise when pushed down all the way). Ordered the keyswitch sampler from Max Keyboard. Blue: Tactile, loud click when bump is felt Brown: Tactile, no click when bump is felt Red: Linear, no tactile bump/click Black: Same as red, but spring is a little stiffer. 2016 Ford Focus SE No build log yetDC Audio 1.2K2x DC Audio Level 2 10"
