So, what did SD miss?

I believe he forgot to take into account of the loss of voltage using the 4 gauge wire compared to the vehicles electrical system. because @ 95 amps the 4 gauge wire has about a .4 drop in voltage. if the guys electrical system cannot stay at a constant 12.9 volts and up it would not work. if i remember correctly your big 3 kit in 4 gauge will work for a charging system up to 150 amps. So assuming his charging system can provide around that amount current and stay above the 12.9 voltage mark yes it will work.

SD, thank for the input. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

Actually, SD's answer was almost entirely correct. He provided a good solid foundation for his explanation - taking into consideration the efficiency of the amplifier, computing current draw from that, and then assessing voltage drop over the cable.

SD did not however take into consideration the duty cycle of music being 50% - although he certainly did mention it. The correct answer is that 4 AWG is sufficient for this amplifier playing music.

I just reread his post and i see it now. this section of the forum is absolutely my favorite. i can find correct answers to all my questions! And by the way, when you mention the duty cycle of music being 50% i am correct in assuming that is an average with distortion free music?

i say just go with 1/0...... more headroom for amp upgrades in the future and definitly would be fine running the nine.5

there are too many variables that can change.......better to be safe than sorry. Plus.... i bet he will have voltage drop if used for powering subs.....i have read these are really under-rated.

my 2 cents.

edit:i fail at reading entire thread before posting.....

i think there real i was looking through that guys stuff he sells and it looks like he finds stuff at auctions and just sells it

Yea, it looks like someone got the mids about a month ago....shit. If I had a whole Hertz front stage my ears would jizz all over my cheeks.
