Fiberglass And Fabrication Projects

Ok so on this thread I am going to post up all my little projects just to help anyone out if they have ideas or want to know how to do certain things.

First project is my training to do a head rest tv install. This shows only the installation of a bracket for a tv into a head rest.

First things first...Trace out the inside edge of the tv bracket

Next cut an X from one corner to the other.

Posted Image

Next take your razor knife and cut out little squares of foam down to the depth of the tv bracket.

Posted Image

After all the foam is cut out...fold in the remaining material.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Now it is time to test fit the bracket for clearance issues.

Posted Image

Next if everything is ok, it is time to secure the bracket to the headrest. If not clear, cut some more foam out deeper.

Here you can see we used zip ties in the corners to secure the tv bracket to the headrest. We attached them to the bracket and to the poles inside the headrest.

The finished product will look just like the test fit if done correctly. Here is one done for the H2 at the school. It took about 15 minutes.

Next project is my rearview camera install into a keyhole cylinder/window pop button. I did not take too many pictures of this one while doing it. First thing I did was take off the panel on the back hatch and remove the key cylinder. I then had to break out the cylinder from the shell housing so that I could use the housing to house the color camera that I purchased.

I regret not taking pictures of the install of the camera into the key cylinder. What I did was take the key cylinder housing and after the cylinder was removed, I had to test fit the camera. It did not fit, so I took it to the orbital sander in the shop and it barely fit over it. I then sanded the inside of the housing to a bigger radius, which did not take too much. It needed to be widened about 1/8th of an inch total. I then test fitted the camera and it was nice and snug. I went to autozone and bought some black permatex silicone. I then stuck the camera in where it belonged and filled completely the entire housing full from bottom edge to top of it with the sealant. Then using the existing bolt holes and bolts and nuts, I replaced the housing in the factory location with a new camera installed into the key cylinder housing.

Next project is two at once. A trim ring which will be vinyled and a wedge speaker box which will be vinyled with a couple tricks.

we are starting off with the speaker box and trim already put together, with both duraglassed up to the trim ring portion already. Sorry but once again, I started the pictures late. I will have better results in the future with pictures, I promise.

Next, we knew we were going to be putting acrylic inserts into the box so we had a chance to put a mold in the top of the box for the acrylic. I got a little creative. Let me tell you something. If you can't cover it...Don't build it! I got elephant skin on my vinyl around the molding insert. You will not see the acrylic inside the insert or cut out once vinyled yet because we have not put it in yet. We kind of bounce around from project to project.
