Purplehaze
Hello fellow bassheads! This is the build log for my car, the Kickin' Cruiser. The builds in this car started in 2010, and have changed several times since then. But in Dec. 2011 I decided to go big or go home, so I started planning this build for the final install. Actually got started about a month later, and have jumped around, way out of order. And I had to put it on hold for over 6 months for the birth of my newest son, T.J. (Trent Jr.) But I just keep pushing forward, with my goal of having a ground pounder PT still very much alive! So anyway, here we go. Much of this will be a repost, since I had a build log before, it just got messed up by facebook. I will attempt to keep it all in the correct order. The car is a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser that I bought a few years ago, and fell in love with ever since. Best car I have ever owned! And a while back, I decided to split the build into stages, so that it wouldn't seem so over-whelming, and so it would be easier to navigate through. So here is the plan for the different stages:Stage 1 - Initial instalStage 2 - Fiberglass and accessories (Learning Stage)V.2Stage 3 - Dash, doors, and a 4th order wall. (Time to get serious stage!)Stage 4 - Rims. body, and paintStage 5 - Engine/ drive-train (performance mods)For this stage, we will be focusing on the interior of the car. We will build new custom door panels, dash panel, change all of the interior color from light brown/ dark brown to grey/ black. I'll also be Installing new carpet front to back, as well as building a new headliner. We will finish it off with new seats. Basically the whole inside of the car is getting a make-over!!! Oh and how could I forget? I'll be building a 4th order wall for 4 custom Solo X 15's (which I will build myself), to run off 2 DC5.0K's. Goals are mid 50's on music, and nasty hair tricks on demand. So here we go!!!! Purplehaze
Okay, so I need a new battery tray, for both the Kinetiks. Let's build one!So we start with this:First layer is cut.Second layer. This one has to be recessed, to allow clearance for the motor mount. I also got the mounting holes drilled.Third layer going on. This one is just a guide for the batts. Glued and screwed, as is the whole piece. The one beside it is the last one I made for the single KinetikOkay, now to make it weather proof. First lets play with some glass.Top side done. And bottom Kickin' Cruiser Seller Feedback Stage 3 Dash, Door Panels,4th Order wall 4 - 15'son a DC 5.0K 2 DC 5.0K'sSolo X 15 (v.2) Sub Build

Purplehaze
So next it's time to sand it and knock down the edges. Then how bout some body filler for good measureThen more sanding funTest fit: It still fits! Now some paintReady to install, for now. I gotta get a battery tray kit to replace the strap, but it will work for now.And here she sits in her new home...Back side of the fuse boxAnd here she is for the moment. I still gotta make bus bars, and replace the strap. Gonna try to incorporate a Stinger volt meter into the pic somehow as well.So there it is, dual Kinetik front battery bank. Stay tuned, lots more to come! Purplehaze
glad to see you're back at it and congrats on the baby Thanks man! Yeah I'm back, and got tons of pics to share! Man, this build log is gonna take a min to get up, so please EVERYONE be patient! I picked up this yesterday, cause my old set-up was just too big, and too much in the way. And got it installed. So after I got that put in, I started on the volt meter batt hold down. It will replace the strap, and should look alot better. Now as soon as this storm system goes away, I'll get this piece finished. In the meantime, I think I'll start on the bus bars. Purplehaze
As for today, I didn't do much. It was raining and shitty out, so I just fooled around with my buss bars a little. Got them cut and drilled, here are the pics.Test fitPerfect! Now I just gotta polish them up, and get some bolts. Then it's on to the volt meter/ circuit breaker battery hold down piece.... not sure what to call it lol!More tomorrow hopefully! Purplehaze
Okay so I finally got my front battery setup finished, at least for the moment. I'll probably re-do the top piece later on, but for now this will work.First was to polish up the bus bars, and get some bolts and nuts. The one on the left has not been polished. Here they are finished, with stainless bolts and nutsNot perfect, but it will do.So now for the batt. hold down/ volt meter.Top side all glassed upAnd bottom Kickin' Cruiser Seller Feedback Stage 3 Dash, Door Panels,4th Order wall 4 - 15'son a DC 5.0K 2 DC 5.0K'sSolo X 15 (v.2) Sub Build
Purplehaze
So now for some body fillerNow to make the base hold the mounting bars...Just drilled an angled hole in the bottom, so the j hook could lock in.Like thisMaking it smooth....Well, I didn't test fit it till after I painted, MISTAKE! Can you see what's wrong with this picture?Couple of things... The j bolts don't quite reach... And my body work sucks ass! Gotta fix it!How about some wiring? Also, check out the way I kept the j bolts from falling out So I decided to just drill out the holes for the j bolts, and try to wrap it in this cf vinyl I had laying around. It works for the time being, like I said, I will probably re-do later.BAM! There she is, looks beastly to me! Way better than the strap...The empty space is for my fuses from front to back. There will be 3 runs of each. And now I have plenty of room for it!Next up: Dampliefier! Purplehaze
Okay well I got a little work done, nothing glamorous. Got my fender changed out (stupid deer), and got the rest of the deadner in the car. Here are some pics.Bam! She's on there, color isn't a perfect match, but I have seen worse, and from body shops! This isn't bad for a spray can job...Then I decided it was time for deadner. First up was the Second Skin that I won from SOTM.So here is my car with the interior all stripped out. The deadner you see down already is the Hushmat I put down last year.I need to do the doors, roof, floor from b pillar up, and all the pillars. Shooting for at least 90% coverage. So here we go, let's see how well we like the Second Skin...DoorsRoof...So I was able to get the roof, all 4 doors, and the b pillars, with my SOTM winnings. Thanks Second Skin, and everyone who voted!I had some Audio Barrier that I held onto last, for the floor board. I figured it should go there, just in case it didn't wanna hold as well as the good stuff.Got it under the dash, as far as possibleAnd that is now done! All I need is a little more for the roof pillars, probably another 20 sq ft. But that will have to wait, I can't spend any extra money till after the baby is born. But I'd say it's at that 90% coverage I was shooting for, and it should make a difference.Up next: Doors and wall.Stay tuned...
