Got a new sub, need a new box

Need Bass

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I got a JBL GT5-15 for my birthday ( :D ) and I'd someone to design me a box to build for it.

I found the sub on Sonic Electronix: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_16026_JBL-GT5-15.html

I went and measured my trunk and the dimensions are as follows:

Total depth I'm willing to give up (front to back): 21in, or less

Width I'm willing to work with: 38in, or less

Height in the front of the trunk: 14in straight up & down, the 15in sub fits at a slant

Height in the back half of the trunk: 17.5

(The front half and the back half of my trunk are two different heights for some reason...)

I'm not even sure whether I would like to do ported or sealed, but if you suggest ported, I have some 4in diameter PVC tubing that I could use as a port if need be.

It's going in my dodge intrepid if you for some reason need to know :P

Thanks!!!

Sorry, that doesn't help me, I'd like some specifics mentioned, maybe a diagram/design. I've never built my own box before so I can't go off generalizations like the ones listed in the link I posted, even though I'm hoping to build this with my grandfather who's a carpenter. Thanks though :)

Any suggestions? Thanks again guys :)

Anyone? :/

I didn't mean to come across as a douche in my last post, but I just need suggestions more specific than what sonic electronix suggests.

EDIT: I realize I asked for advice in my first post, I'm actually asking if someone can design me a box, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks guys!

So here is a suggestion, the port can be placed like shown or to the side, good to rated power:

Enclosure Specifications:

Fb = 34 Hz
Vb = 3.54 ft^3

External Height = 14 in
External Width = 36 in
External Depth = 21 in 63.4 deg.
External Depth2 = 14 in 63.4 deg.

Cut Sheet List:

* All Dimensions in Inches.
* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.

External Enclosure Parts:

Front = 15 5/8 x 36 (top/botton cuts: 26.6 deg.)

Top = 12 7/16 , 12 13/16 x 36

Bottom = 19 1/2 , 19 1/16 x 36

Back = 14 x 36

Left & Right Sides =
Top = 12 13/16
Bottom = 19 1/16
Back = 12 1/2
Front = 14

Port Quantity and Dimensions:

Number of Ports = 1
Pipe Port Diameter = 6
Pipe Port Length = 14

Assembly guide (generic dimensions):

Important notes:

- All trunk boxes built outside the car need to fit in their way in not just have the right dimensions.

- The port needs 6" of free airspace in front of it for proper operation.

- Setting your amp subsonic filter to 28Hz is suggested.

Thank you very much Joe! I appreciate your work! I'll see if I can make it happen, thanks for the help and quick response too! :D

I have one question, hpw much would I have to change if I already have 4in PVC? I can get 6in PVC if I need to, but I already have 4in so if possible I'd like to try and integrate what I have, if it's not too much trouble... what do you think?
