anr
Hello all, first post here on the forum. Needing a little help with a design for a ported enclosure. This will be my first ported enclosure build. Last week, i acquired two Alpine Type R 12s (SWR-1223D) dual 2 ohm voice coil..already in an Audio Enhancers brand pre-fab box from a kid for only $70 so it was a great deal! I have an Alpine MRX-M110 amp. First of all the box doesn't have enough airspace, it only has .92 cubic feet per chamber before displacement. Secondly, it is tuned to a whopping 43hertz! I got this info from their website. I mainly listen to rap, r&b, hiphop, alternative rock and a little pop. The subs are not performing very well on the low notes in the music im listening to so its got to go asap! I have a 95 blazer 4x4 4 door. I have room for 37.5" wide, 18' tall and 18" deep. I would like the new enclosure to have alot more airspace with a common chamber and common port, with a much lower tuning! Any and all help will be appreciated! Opinions and designs please? 1995 Blazer 4x4 4 door Hu-Pioneer DEH-1200MP Subs- (2) Alpine Type R 12s SWR-1223d Sub Amp-Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bd CP Mids- Kicker DS60 coax Mids amp-Rockford Fosgate Punch 250 A2 Wiring-2 awg OFC power&grounds
Joe X
Welcome, post this in the subs/enclosures sections in the future as it may be deleted here, here is a box suggestion: Enclosure Specifications:Fb = 33 HzVb = 4 ft^3External Height = 18 inExternal Width = 36 inExternal Depth = 18 inPort Width = 3 1/2 inCut Sheet List:* All Dimensions in Inches.* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.External Enclosure Parts:Top & Bottom = 36 x 18Left & Right Sides = 16 1/2 x 16 1/22x Front = 16 1/4 x 16 1/2Back = 36 x 16 1/2Shared Port Internal Assembly Parts:2 x Front to Back = 14 3/4 x 16 1/22 x Extension = 8 1/8 x 16 1/2 Assembly guide (generic dimensions): Important notes:- The 45s if you want to do them are 2 1/2" wide except the one/ones inside the port, if you want that let me know.- All trunk boxes built outside the car need to fit in their way in not just have the right dimensions.- The port needs 3 1/2" of free airspace in front of it for proper operation.- Setting your amp subsonic filter to 28Hz is suggested. anr
Thanks alot Joe X. Havent had enough time yet to browse through the entire set yet and see all the different sections of the forum and where to post at but will keep that in mind for future posts. And the box design is pretty much spot on. 1995 Blazer 4x4 4 door Hu-Pioneer DEH-1200MP Subs- (2) Alpine Type R 12s SWR-1223d Sub Amp-Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bd CP Mids- Kicker DS60 coax Mids amp-Rockford Fosgate Punch 250 A2 Wiring-2 awg OFC power&grounds
anr
Also, is there a specific reason for subs up, port back? i have seen and hear of this quite often but never heard of the specific reason as to why it is built that way? 1995 Blazer 4x4 4 door Hu-Pioneer DEH-1200MP Subs- (2) Alpine Type R 12s SWR-1223d Sub Amp-Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bd CP Mids- Kicker DS60 coax Mids amp-Rockford Fosgate Punch 250 A2 Wiring-2 awg OFC power&grounds
anr
Joe X , does this design account for subs and the 45s displacements? I am worried that when i put my subs in, the tuning will change so i wanted to ask you and make sure? 1995 Blazer 4x4 4 door Hu-Pioneer DEH-1200MP Subs- (2) Alpine Type R 12s SWR-1223d Sub Amp-Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bd CP Mids- Kicker DS60 coax Mids amp-Rockford Fosgate Punch 250 A2 Wiring-2 awg OFC power&grounds
Joe X
Yes it accounts for all displacements, it would be useless to spec a box if the end result was different, anyways bear in mind that in a very hot day tuning will be slightly different than in a cold one. Also withing 1 Hz it will be very hard for you to tell a difference.
anr
OK thanks man. What happens during a very hot day to change the tuning even if it is just a slight change? I have never heard of that before and I have been doing TONS of reading, countless hours worth over the past few months concerning "in depth" detail of various aspects of enclosures and other components of car audio. Would like to know, im a very curious guy haha 1995 Blazer 4x4 4 door Hu-Pioneer DEH-1200MP Subs- (2) Alpine Type R 12s SWR-1223d Sub Amp-Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bd CP Mids- Kicker DS60 coax Mids amp-Rockford Fosgate Punch 250 A2 Wiring-2 awg OFC power&grounds
anr
I am afraid that if i place this subs firing upward, that i will have too much noise coming from the vibration of my roof in my blazer because it does not have any sound deadening and i cannot afford it anytime soon. It already resonates pretty bad as it is with the subs and port firing at my hatch making that boomy sheet metal type sound if you know what i mean. What is the purpose of subs up port back in an SUV? I may consider it anyways if theres a decent reason for it 1995 Blazer 4x4 4 door Hu-Pioneer DEH-1200MP Subs- (2) Alpine Type R 12s SWR-1223d Sub Amp-Rockford Fosgate T1000-1bd CP Mids- Kicker DS60 coax Mids amp-Rockford Fosgate Punch 250 A2 Wiring-2 awg OFC power&grounds
Joe X
I have seen quite a few Blazers done like this and have gotten good results and so other SUVs if that's a good enough reason, if you really want to be sure what's best for your particular vehicle and taste you will need to build a few boxes with different configurations and test them until you find out what you like best. MDF is cheap and a simple box can be completed in 1 or 2 days so in my view you don't stand to loose too much.
