any help would be awesome.

i pulled my RF 800a2 out of storage for a year. hooked i up to test it and it started smoking and getting real hot so i yanked the power and ground off the distro blocks.

i have never attempted a fix like this but im pretty handy with a soldering iron.

i pulled it apart and found the problem i hope but any help would be awesome!

i need help identifying the parts and any tips towards fixing the issue.

i have included a couple of pics below:

this pic has a burnt resistor its the blue one:

and this one is the moss fets i believe a couple had melted solder hanging off the pins:

any help please!

Those two parts are easy to source and should be easy to replace.

Your biggest problem would be tracking down the reason they blew.

Simply replacing damaged parts doesn't mean that the problem is fixed and it might make it worse by giving the faulty circuit fresh parts to conduct even more large amounts of current.

The other major issue would be removing those MOSFETs and installing new ones.

That method Fosgate uses bonds(solders) the FET itself to the circuit board.

You can't use a solder iron to replace it.

You need a reflow oven or at the very least a large heatgun which may not even be enough as generally the whole circuit board needs to be heated evenly or certain parts will take too much heat and could be further damaged.

Getting a hold of those fets is the biggest problem i've found. I bought some for my 800a2 (which I still havent fixed yet, and it has a few other problems) and the shop I managed to finally get them from charged me like $80 :(

The thermal board you dont need to solder to, you can just drill and tap the amp casing where the thermal board sits then use metal bar-straps to hold the fets tightly to the thermal board.. its not perfect, but it works as well or better than the stock setup.

As to the resistor, you can find those easily. Just look up "resistor color codes" then match what you have (red black silver gold) and replace it. Just make sure you get a resistor that has approximately the same (or better) wattage rating.

MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..."

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

Hammerdown... 1%

From what I can see in the pics your fets look fine.

That resistor is burnt in the first pic one of the 4 blue ones on the first pic.

You read the color bands on them to determine what kind of resistor they are as far as resistance quantity in ohms and % tolerance.

Your is a 4 band resistor because it has 4 color bands. So you would read it like the resistor example on the bottom of the chart. Starting at the bands closest to the edge of the resistor you have brown, black, silver, gold on your resistor.

I am getting 1/10th ohm with 5% tolerance but I dont know if thats it for sure double check the chart yourself and I also dont know what wattage rating that resistor is either you need to know that also so you know what size to get.

Ive only have to do this once on an amp of my own I was also repairing so Im no pro at this lol.

If the amp is worth it, just sent it to fosgate for a $321 flat fix it price.

Working on Rockford amps is... fun... to say the least. They seem to follow that "buy a new one already" philosophy that oh-so-many companies do today. As wicks mentioned, don't just replace parts, they will probably just blow again as soon as the amp sees power.

I'm gonna hate
