^^ this is true.

If you understand which algorithm is behind the password hashing, a lot of times there are vulnerabilities. I just recently decrypted a whole bunch of files that were encrypted under AES 256 by ransomware for an associate. My PC would still be brute-forcing the key for it if the script kiddie didn't just use prime factorization to manipulate the public key. Just because AES isn't crackable doesn't mean the implementation isn't.

Unfortunately the only credential policy worth two fucks is extreme enforcement. Mishandled credentials gets a reprimand, second offence is termination. Word will get around but most companies are too pussy to adhere to that.
