Recommended Posts

Well, big update, I finally got my Teams built

My friend Dave routed a regular Ti basket to fit the Team Motors

First impression
1. They sound fucking amazing and play very low
2. Voltage is a lot better when going from .5 to 1 ohm per amp(no it's not .7, even my dmm says .9, and that's just dcr)

Though of course they arent as loud as the hdc3's but that's because, 4 inch coil, heavy mass, stiff as hell, higher impedence, and they want more power, but oddly enough, it's harder to sit in the car, they have a much more solid sound and I feel like once I feed them rated power, shit is going to get scary. Of course, now to save up for more power, but I do love these subs, such perfect high powered daily subs. So AA ftw lol

I got them from my friend Dennis Romasco, they used to be 18's with the original leads back when he had 4 of them in a 4th order on 4 AB 650.1's in a Rodeo

Motors were from the 18's that blew(one with a ripped lead, and the other with a defective coil that shorted). Got them for a killer deal.

Been a while since I posted here

Well, here's a few changes.

Ended up getting an Ampere 5k from Kevosinn for an awesome deal.

Originally wanted to do 2 3800's at 1 ohm each but the 5k is doing excellent at .5
Also got 2 deka group 31's for dirt cheap, $200 for a pair from 2014, didnt want to run a 5k on 1 g31, dont care what nsb nutthuggers say, 5k is too much for 1 on daily, burp yes, long time music, no.

Though ran into issues, my voltage was terrible, dropped way too quick, belt kept slipping(had to take my car to a mechanic to replace the timing belt again), and they put a shitty goodyear belt.
This was when I only had 1 jump of cca 1/0 between each batteries, and I was playing it one day from the way from work, smell amp burning(I was playing above tuning like a moron, like above 50hz)
Sent the amp to amp medics, wait 2 weeks, got it back
While waiting, I rebult my amp rack, because the way I had my batteries was very unsafe, moved around a lot
Did 3 jumps of 2/0 welding cable per battery, with the help of CNF terminals, and put grade 8 steel lockwashers to prevent loose connections

Got my amp back in, put in my dual inputs, put 2 positives on the right battery receiving my positive runs, and the other 2 on the middle battery. Did the same for ground except on the right battery receving grounds.

Re DD1-ed the amp, set the subsonic filter at 25hz, and lpf at 50hz(to prevent voltage drop from high bass)
Got much better voltage, like it takes a lot to push under 12 volts with dead batteries, and amp doesnt get hot anymore, sounds louder too

Also did a meter run, then a dats run to see where my tuning and impedence rise is
on the meter I did
147.4 at 34hz sealed on the dash
148 at 36hz dash door open
149.8 at 36hz outlaw(lost .4 from the last setup)
Scores are meh, was never suppose to be an SPL box, and I'll admit I'm not loud lol

Did a dats run on the setup
Came to discover I'm tuned to 28hz with the box in the car, fs of the woofers in the box is 22hz, and my impedence rise between 22hz to 45hz is between 1.1 to 4, 3.5 at peak, above 50hz is .8 reactive, which is dangerous, amp will play, but its really tough on the amp.

Explains why I play and peak so damn low, but I still retain a flat reponse, I do a 149 from 34hz to 42hz, a 148 at 30hz, and a 147 at 28hz(all outlaw scores)

If I want to gain, I'd have to shrink the box, tune higher, and relocate port, friend said try port up so it doesnt fire against anything to mess with tuning. I'll try it soon.

Though plan is to save up for another 5k to run each at 1 ohm to be cleaner and safer for daily. From my testing of 2 1500's at 1 ohm and 1 1500 at .5, I dropped a lot less on 2 and was a bit louder, and they stayed cold.

Also looking into maxwell capacitors as well, really dont want to put more batteries on the car, car hates 3 batteries already. May even build a bracket for a haipin alt on where my ac is since the ac compressor died.
