JamieHoward
So the theory behind capacitors was always interesting to me, but they were never really viable due to the fact that they lack the "ass" behind them to support a massive power hungry system. I am learning now about ultra or super caps and they actually look very promising. 6x 2.5v, 3000 farad ultracaps yields a 15v, 500 farad bank that recharges fully in mere seconds, at what 20% of the weight of one g31 batt? There is still a lot of controversy on this subject, but like I said, I am just starting to learn about these and was wondering if any of the electrical gurus on here have any input on this. Also - I can see how these would be viewed as best for a burp setup as much of the appeal of caps is their ability to charge and discharge almost instantaneously, but I am much more interested in being able to implement for daily use. What would be the best way to do this - batt banks for stamina coupled with caps for bursts? Really hungry for knowledge if anyone knows anything about these...Snafu... Sutliff
There are "super capacitor" setups out there that folks are using ALONE to power their cars, ... no BATT. I almost pulled the trigger in trying that system to augment my current BATT before I bought a XS D3400. Bump4life
they are superior in every way to batts at least as far as i have researched. only issue is safety. if you are building your own bank, charging is a scary process. better have a pretty good understanding on how to do it using the right resistors. and also cost. i havent really looked at the price compared to batts but i think they are more expensive. look up maxwell super ultra caps to get an idea Buyer/Seller Feedback Thread: http://www.stevemead...5015-bump4life/ MB C220 153 Trunk Car Build Log: http://www.stevemead...d/#entry1840136 MB C280 Ipad Dash SQ Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/194484-bump4lifes-new-benz-tony-c-relay-kit-pictures-ce-electric-audison-front-stage-installed/ My SPL Log: http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 BMW M340 xDrive Stock, for now. Nate Futuristic
though the cap banks didint have much reserve down rpping vanderbilt. 30 miles from victoria. i own the 3rd loudest setup here out of 3. but i did put together all 3 setups ^^ Cant wait to swalllow Ghost's babies
JamieHoward
Like I said, I am very interested in this. I have plenty of battery bank now - around 450AH's powering about 6k total, but I think that being able to use a bank of these in addition could provide nice results. JamieHoward
you guys are super way behind Well I guess that means the whole car audio game is super way behind. Every current build I see on here or anywhere else is still using 5 tons of AGM batts for reserve power.....
JamieHoward
Another question - I see batteries rated in amp/hours or cca. What would the farad equivalent of say a d3100 be?
