Interior will have 6 coats of lacquer finish along with the outside. Port will be constructed out of Hickory. Wonder what it will sound like. This is going to be a butcher block design to keep the boards from moving. Been doing wood working for 32 years know all about wood and movement. Rection is a cabinet maker I believe, or he's around wood all day(hehe) and he'd be a good person to contact and pick his brain. i wouldnt build it out of hard maple personally. hard maple glued like a butcher block damn sure wouldnt flex a bit, but the resonant and tonal properties of it are what i would be wary of. if it were me personally, in order to get a good compromise of workability, resonance, tonality, and flex resistance id probably just go with something more like white poplar. if you really wanted to use maple though i would use soft maple. soft maple is still plenty tough enough and wont split as easily as hard maple when you put fasteners in it, but it wont have the same tonal properties of some poplar. companies that build high end guitar speaker cabinets, PA cabinets, and home theater cabinets use poplar alot.
