Jensen H/U stops playing sound to door speakers but sub works.

My cousin has a Jensen Head unit, flip up style, and for some random reason, the other day he said his door speakers quit working altogether, however his subwoofers still play music.

The car is a 2007 Ford Focus.

His door speakers have never been on an amp. The radio still has power, like I said, the subwoofers still play, and they're tied into an amp from the back of the unit. Any ideas what could be causing this at random? Please let me know. Thank you.

False I had all mine cut out when I had a bad speaker. The surround came unglued and shorted out and at higher volumes they would cut out til I turned it back down.

Is the sub amp fed a low level or high level signal?

If low level, the H.U. Internal amp could be bad.

Was it sudden? And did he check his connections?

The sub is fed a low level input from the unit. We also hooked up another stereo and got the same results. I am believing it has to be somewhere in the speakers, but how would one speaker shorting out cause the whole system to go down? It doesn't even produce any signal when I restart the radio or anything... I tried a CD, I tried a station. antennae was plugged in nad I got the exact same results.

I can assure there's no stock amplifiers. We've even hooked tweeters straight up to the radio harness and it didn't work on either stereo either. *shrugs*

There is no electrical tape. It's all solder and shrink tube. Right now it's just the stock door speakers and the subwoofer amplifier and still just the subwoofer is the only thing making any noise. I'm stumped. I wouldn't think there'd be some kind of fuse somewhere though. My cousin wants to believe that's the case but what would the fuse do for speakers? Something is just not adding up somewhere.

Im not sure what part you are missing you have a short on a speaker lead or a bad speaker. Take a known good speaker disconnect everything in the vehicle. and test each channel on that known good speaker individually. If you still get no sound you have a smoked internal amp on the head unit. you may have to connect a speaker with the head unit off and then try each channel.

Thats it

Its either a bad speaker

a grounded out shorted wire

or a bad head unit amp.
