Speaker baffles for doors?

I have a pair of Soundstream 5.25" door speakers that are getting a little weathered from being in my doors and the surrounds are actually getting hard and tearing, my rear 6x9's that are not exposed to the weather are fine. I'm wondering if foam speaker baffles like the ones found on Amazon would be an option for protecting the speakers and also improving sound quality? I have sound deadened the doors but can I expect a change with the baffles?

How are they getting weathered? A bit of water creeping in through the window seal and getting on them? I've have magnets get a little rusty from getting wet but if the speakers are made of good parts I don't think they should do that. The hardening sounds like what light would do to low quality rubber.

I think it would probably change the sound a bit. If it's a bad change you could always cut out the bottom half so it stops any water from getting on them but they still get unimpeded airflow

No, The baffle will only muffle the sound from the speaker and you will lose all midbass.

As was stated in the post above me, replace the window seal and that should stop any water coming into the door, and now is a good chance to upgrade to something better and bigger.

I would cut the hole a bit larger and use an MDF 6.5" ring mounted to the door and mount your speaker to that and that will do several things for you.

I love the boom mat ones i have for my Alpine 6x8's.

They didn't sound good sealed up though so i cut two 1"x2" slots in the back (above and below the logo stamped into them) of each one and filled them with some lightly packed polyfil.

I think they gave me an improvement in the midrange response.

I have a set of 6x9s of the same series as the 5 1/4's that are not exposed to any weather and the surrounds on those are in excellent condition. I have looked at the speakers and they have no rust and the sticker on the magnet show no water damage yet the speakers are dirty on the backs like they got dusty and moisture kind of adhered the dirt on in a thin film. The tinsel leads have also come off the spiders along with tearing of the surround. I think I do want to upgrade the speakers to components yet I would like to protect them better. I have seen the boom mat ones and I like the idea of putting poly fill and slotting them. I have an 8' midbass sub that covers 40Hz to 120Hz so I have all my mids crossed over at 120Hz so would the boom mat baffles work in this situation being that I don't need any thing below 120Hz?
