JuniorXJ
Could be done like this for a single SWX1243, subsonic filter to 28Hz: Port parts: Front to Back: 14 3/4" x 12 3/4" Extension: 16" x 12 3/4" I'm liking this one Does placement of the woofer play role any ? If so what's best ? Joe X
You want the sub away from the inner end of the port so they don't interact with each other. Alpine are known to suggest small boxes since people like them small but these subs can work better on a larger net volume, one exception is the 5th generation subs which actually perform nice in smaller boxes, the SWR 12D4 will perform really nice on around 1.5 cubes net while the older ones are known to like more. Anyhow you can play with the net volume as long you don't hurt the sub, to prevent mechanical failure using the amp's subsonic filter is a must with ported boxes setting it a few Hz below the tuning of the box. JuniorXJ
Thanks it a older model so I'll go with the layout there and see what I get worse case build another with less volume 1998 Jeep Cherokee Headunit: Alpine CDE-143BTEq: NVX XEQ7Front stage: Boston Acoustic 6.5 Component setRear stage : RemovedMid/High Amp : Pioneer GM-X364 70x2 bridgedSubwoofer: Fi BL 18" Dual 2 wired @ 1ohmSub Amp: CT Sounds 1400.1d Build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/180586-juniorxjs-98-cherokee-build/
Mr H
I've lost my touch on box building, even with Subwoofer Design Toolbox. It's freaking all confusing now (maybe its the age)... lol. This box for example, http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/141-ported-box-2-mtx-9515s-repost-for-my-site/ how is something like this even calculated? Given how the ports are being shared. As for tuning, is it tuned for 30Hz @ 2.80cuft? I got the specs from http://www.manualslib.com/manual/293713/Mtx-Thunder-T9515-04.html Can anyone get me back into speed? You calculate the volume of the box as a single chamber. When designing a 2 common wall port like that you split the port in half at the back wall, so that half of the port area goes to each driver. Being that the port shares two walls with the shell of the enclosure you need to account for that (Torres will if you select it). You can refer to this thread for some more info. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/178345-calculating-port-area-with-xmax/ Thanks for the links, it did help some. I did come across another design that caught my eye, just to keep cargo from making contact with the subs, which the box by the way is going into a 2005 Ford Explorer. Heres what I'm working on. 4 - L7 10"s. The outer dimensions I would like the box is: 45"x12"x18" with the subs pointing up and one large port on the bottom (see pic). I got confused using Torres and the other links and I hope the end result meets the suggested specs. The inner port measures 40"x9"x4".... I'm kinda leaning towards a sealed box for SQ. Just for reference, I've always built my boxes in individual chambers but have noticed boxes with one single chamber. Does it really even matter? Let me know what you guys think.Thanks... Joe X
Mr H this looks like some serious threadjacking, anyways is really hard to make those subs to behave as SQ subwoofers probably sealed is your better bet, if you go for a ported box try to go for lower net airspace and lower tuning to deal with group delay. Joe X
Thanks it a older model so I'll go with the layout there and see what I get worse case build another with less volume To me 1.8-2 cubic feet net is plenty but if you want loud on low power it's ok to give some more just make sure you stay around rated power and use the subsonic filter, if it sounds too peaky to you that means you need to reduce that net volume.
