My small build , "New Focal component set" Pg 89

Recommended Posts

Well no dice on the discount from second skin. I cant believe the shipping charges. I would think closed cell foam and butyl rope wouldn't weigh that much or could be packed in a smaller box. When I went to check out they quoted 22 bucks for shipping. WTF no way am I spending 1/3 of my order for shipping. So I think I may be trying to source some closed cell foam locally and make some butyl rope out of the soundqubed deadener I bought. Should be easy enough to heat it up a bit and get it off the foil, let it cool and them form it into rope. Let the search begin.

Ok I need to find a way to get the RE audio 6.5's in my kicks. They just put out such great mid and sub bass. I just don't want them in my door cause they rattle the fuck out of them.  I could run the CT sounds component set of channel 1-2 with the RE passive crossover in the door, then put the RE's by themselves on 3-4 and use the amp crossover. I would put the CT tweets in the door pillars like I have them mounted up. Then I could put the RE tweet just above the door speaker and wire the tweets together to run off the passive crossover. So 5.25 CTs in each door and two sets of tweeters. I would be giving each set 115w dynamic rms which they should be able to handle no problem and the REs in the kicks would get 190w dynamic rms each @ 2ohms which I am sure they can handle also.

They are really like mini subwoofers. I just don't know if I can give them enough space to make them sound good?? I guess I will have to do some research to see if anyone has done this yet and what kind of space they used. Crap I may have to look into getting a 80prs so I can set the LPF and HPF of the RE's and full pass the CT component set to run them passive. Damn it..... I need to quit thinking out loud.... AAAAHHHHGGG!!!    LOL

Did some searching and found some CCF for a decent price. Its 1/8" and comes in 24"x96" so I bought two of them for 40 bucks shipped. Should be enough to do both inside and outside of the doors and maybe some left over for the rear of the cab to help with vibration of the rear panel I had to install when I put the jump seat back in.

I owned one a while ago but really didn't have the knowledge to use it. I think I could utilize its features now though. Should of never sold it. Oh well

Yeah I installed a passive set of components after installing my 80PRS. Huge facepalm when I read into the active xover capability of the unit.  Have since acquired a tweeter amp and am now running active.  So much adjustability that I couldnt get with my passive setup.  I'll be the devil on your shoulder saying "yeah yeah, go active".  The tweeter control is niccce.

Nice HU's! Would love the PRS-99 and run 4-way active... that would be the shit. I would learn how to tune it right!

I dont think I could set up a 99, way too many settings. Lol

So when I got home last night I played with the setting in the amp a little. I turned the punch eq on all channels to 0 , then I reset the front and rear channels to 0db of course all settings on the deck flat, then I set the sub at -10db. I noticed that the gain could go up higher with it set that way.

Why could I turn up the gain so much? Am I getting more power to the sub with a cleaner signal? I usually set it to 0db and the I turned up the punch eq to boost the signal then using the sub crossover on the deck its set to 80hz then I set it to +6 then use the bass knob to adjust. Am I getting a cleaner stronger signal using -10 db without boosting it with the punch eq or the setting in the deck set to 0?

Not sure if that all makes sense.

Well I played with the amp on the way home. I left the cover off so I could reach back and mess with the Punch eq and the gains. So what the fuck is the difference in setting the gain to -10db  with no punch eq and sub level at 0 or setting it to 0db and turning up the punch eq on the amp which seems to do exactly the same as turning up the gain and setting the sub level to +6 , or setting it to 0db and turning the punch eq all the way off but then turning up the sub level  adjustment on the deck up to +6? Every scenario seems to have the same type of effect which is clipping at full volume so you need to use the bass knob to adjust to the song.  So what I did with the gain is set it with 0db, turned off the punch eq, turned the sub level adjustment on the HU up to +6 and adjust the bass to the song with the bass knob. On some music I can turn the bass knob all the way up then some I cant, so I think that is the best scenario to use?

I wonder which setting would give the cleanest sound?
