My small build , "New Focal component set" Pg 89

Recommended Posts

Now I am just trying to decide on A pillar speakers. I have been thinking of just running a 3 1/2 two way just for ease and keeping it simple. IDK its fun researching though.

I just purchased these. They are out of stock but thought I would pull the trigger so I can get them when they come back into stock.

Nice!!!! I think you will be happy with them in the right position to the ear. Will the highs output on the 80-PRS in network mode crossover low enough to help these play mids? You might have to switch back to standard mode to achieve your goals. But as always i might be wrong. Even if you have to go back to standard mode the 80-PRS will still deliver what your looking foor and you will still be running partially active off your amps HPF crossover slopes.

Just something to think about. Tust me, i am in the same boat on the lancer. Would love to do something with the A-Pillars as well but would have to go Passive to achieve it also.

I would like warmer highs if thats possible. The 80prs crossses the highs at 1.2k. Something to help blen the tweeters in better without sounding harsh to the ear.

Well of course when I got home I played with my system. LOL

I unhooked the kick panel tweeters and just put the alpine sail panel tweets in the p300x2. I turning the gain all the way down and it still has plenty of power to run these.

Of course it made the time alignment much better and even with the one set of tweeters gain off I still set it at -3db. Sounds good but just needs some warm highs coming from the dash.

I think the new 3" speakers should help quite a bit. I was doing a lot of meditating on the subject at work today. (LOL daydreaming) trying to figure out the best way to run these new speakers.

I was thinking of going back to standard mode, use just the 5 channel, wire the CT sounds @ two ohms off the front, wire the tweeters and 3" @ 2 ohms using the inline crossover that came with the tweeters. If I did it that way I could all pass the CT sounds and cross them at the 100hz using the deck ( like they are now in network mode) but they will play all the way up instead of being bandpassed at 4K. The 3inch could be hpf @ 250 on the amp but only 200 on the deck and they would have to play from 250hz all they way. So all speakers pretty much full range except the tweets.

Standard mode I could keep the tweeters wired to the 300x2 and use the crossovers that came with the tweeters @ 4ohms , wire the CTs @ 2ohms off the front channel, wire the 3" off the rear channel @ 4 ohms and HP cross them at 250hz and up off the amplifier. I would have to run the splitter RCA from the rear to the 300x2. I would be able to turn the gain down on the rear channel of the 1000x5 so not to overpower the 3". I could keep time alignment because the tweets and 3" will be right by each other. This would still be full range for all speakers except the tweeters.

The only way to run active network mode is if I wire the tweeters and 3" together @ 8ohms and cross them the same off the 80prs. The 80prs can only go down to 1.2K HPF for the highs Which the tweeters are 1000hz to 22000hz. Just not sure how the 3" speakers will sound so its all about them to decide what direction I will go. If I went this way I could take out the 300x2. I have to see if the 3" speakers can handle 250hz or lower.

I would wire the 3" off the mid channel with the CTs to get the band pass in network mode. I could use whatever channels I was using and cross them on the amplifier to 250hz and the deck would take care of the CTs  but the time alignment would be off and I think I would loose my left and right balance.

Lots of out loud thinking going on here.

Arrrggg.. So is there a DSP that would allow me to run a true 3way with sub using the 80PRS??

Do you plan on running anything with them?  Like this...

http://www.parts-express.com/100uf-100v-electrolytic-non-polarized-crossover-capacitor--027-360

or even 300uF??

Or does the 80PRS have enough control to do all that?

The 80prs has control either in network mode and standard. In network mode you can set crossovers in high hpf, mid lpf , mid hpf. low lpf

In standard mode you can set sub channel lpf , front hpf. rear hpf. So  I can either cross them at 1.2K  in network mode and run them with the tweeters and let them play from there all the way up or in standard mode run them off the rear channels and cross them at 200hz all the way up from there. Or in standard mode I can set it to all pass and set the crossover on the amp to 250hz and have them play from there all the way up.
I would have to run the crossover that came with the tweeters to run it in standard mode.

I am going to wait to see what frequencies the speakers can really play in then I will make my decision how I will run them.

All I can say is WTF have I done now!!!!! Cant stop trying to make it sound better. 68.00 5.25 component speakers just are not doing it for me right now. I will take pics in a few days. Leave you in suspense for a bit.....

I know one thing though. I need to start selling some of the equipment I am not using so help me with my obsession. My wife is going to kill me if she finds out....

Need to sell the RE audio xxx component set, Soundqubed 125.4 amplifier. I will have to take some pics and post stuff to the classified section.
