My small build , "New Focal component set" Pg 89

Recommended Posts

well it looks like today is the day to build a sub box. The only thing I am debating is wether to glue and pocket hole screw jig the box or just glue and pin nail it together. Not sure how strong it needs to be as its only a single 8. Watching Steve's vid building the box for the two pride massive subs he only glued and pin nailed them.

I also still have not decided on how I am going to finish the box when done. Clear sealer? Carpet? Paint? I guess I can make that decision after its built and tested in the truck. One thing I have not done with any of my boxes so far is inset the ends of the box. I have always been flush all around but the prefab I have has the inset and it makes it much easier to lift the box as it gives you something to hold onto.

I have the design down. Its going to be 1.7 gross and 1.25 net tuned to 39hz. 17.5"x20"x11.5 "

Well I spent quite a few hours today building this box. It turned out nice until my Fucking flush trim bit threw its bearing. Fuck put a nice gouge in the top. I did a round over to hide it best I could. Otherwise it will function just fine. I need to go to the hardware store and get some aluminum bolts so I can wire it up. Here area a few pics of the build. Its all pocket screwed and glued. Its one strong box thats for sure. Hope it sound good.

Had time so I ran to Ace Hardware to pick up two aluminum bolts, copper washers and 4 copper lugs for the speaker wire. Got it installed and played it for a couple of sec in my drive way so no real update there but I like the look of the box. It also allows me to keep one jump seat in the rear for my kids.

I haven't listen to it yet. I am sitting here watching football and contemplating my amp rack install. I think I have come up with a plan though. Hard for me to describe but building a box for it has changed. I will take pics as I go but I think the way I am going to do it should keep the amp cooler than being under the pass seat. It will be mounted horizontal behind my seat just under the sub box. Yes I will attach it to the sub box to keep it from falling forward and it will sit on the floor and act as a box stabilizer also. I will have side pieces to hide the crossovers and wires. I spent all day yesterday building my sub box so today I will sit on my ass and watch TV. lol

Damn this thing is loud for an 8" sub. I bet if I blindfolded someone and put them in the truck they would swear it was a 12. Its time to go out and make a mounting board for my amp.

Well got to work and built the amp rack. Now I need to wait until the weekend so I can take all my interior out and run all new speaker wires, RCA's and power wires. I will mount the crossovers to the back of the amp rack as shown in the drawing on the back and I will mount the amp to the front and have all the connections run up from under the rack and straight into the amp. Should look pretty clean when done. The amp rack will also act as a stabilizer for the box.
