MECHMAN
Thanks for the advice. Could the alternator staying on create such a large parasitic drain? Yes, the alternator or any other amp, accessory, etc.... could be staying on and running down the batteries while the vehicle is parked. Use an amp clamp to measure if any current is flowing when the car is turned off. 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]

sundown escort
Need the following: Running voltage, voltage ~5 mins after shutting off car, and voltage after sitting overnight I unhooked the rear battery, amp and sub. Brought it all in the house. I will go collect the results of these tests in the morning. Also check the battery I brought inside. Thanks
sundown escort
Need the following: Running voltage, voltage ~5 mins after shutting off car, and voltage after sitting overnight Running voltage with only one battery up front is 14.8. Voltage after sitting overnight, (after a full hour of driving), 12.34. Voltage after trying to start 11.99. Over night voltage of battery inside is 12.56. I believe both batteries had a resting voltage of roughly 12.5-6 when i got them. Not sure how long to let it idle, along with a 20 mile drive i will be doing in a few minutes, before shutting off and taking the 5 mins after voltage. Voltage after 1.5 hours of idling. Shut off for 7 minutes 13.2 volts
MECHMAN
I would look for a parasitic draw. 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]
sundown escort
I would look for a parasitic draw. Are you saying that the voltage lost in that period of time is too much? The stereo is not hooked up. So what is left? Its a very basic car too. No power anything except steering and has ac. Thats about it
sundown escort
I am trying to test for a draw on the battery with my multimeter. I put it on DC 10a and when i probe the cable and terminal i get a "-1". I have no idea what that means. Meter manual doesn't say.
Ahmed Johnson
The front battery seems bad. If I'm reading this right, the front battery got the 11.99v reading after letting it sit overnight. If that's correct, swap batteries and see what happens. I'm pretty sure once the battery is under 12 volts it's a bad battery.

sundown escort
What voltage do you read when the engine is running? and when it's off? 14.8 while running. 12.34 after sitting overnight. 12.5 after sitting with negative terminal unhooked. There is a draw according to the volt test. My meter will only shown a 1 when testing amps.
