Though, I have found myself tossing up between both types of boxes considering their benefits. Note: I have only ever heard ported systems in real life. I mainly listen to trance/club music, but also listen to many other genres. I'm just wondering has anybody had first hand experience with both sealed and ported boxes to tell me what would sound best playing trance/club music? Decided to go with an Dual voice coil 4 ohm Alpine type s 10" sub (1500w), which is to be powered by a Hifonics 1500w D class mono block. Personally I haven't had a lot of experience around quality systems and am a noobie in the audio world, so advice on boxes would be appreciated! (1) Single din Kenwood headunit (1) Alpine Type S 12" SWS-12D4 (500wrms) (2) Kicker CS65 coaxial 6.5" mid's (100wrms) (1) MB Quart Mono Block Amplifier (500wrms) (1) Rampage 4 Channel Amplifier (1200wrms) (1) 2nd Hand Ported Box (prefab) (estimated 1.7-9 cubes tuned @35-37hz) (1) MB Quart Bass Knob Stinger wiring and RCA's. Looking down the scope of a ported box, but my buddy seems to think that the sealed boxes are king for techno. Looking down the scope of a ported box, but my buddy seems to think that the sealed boxes are king for techno. its all personal preference honestly. but as far as techno goes i seem to notice most bass notes are short and to best produce those short tight bass notes would be a sealed box. A ported box would be better for producing those long held notes, from my observations at least. Yes you can design a ported enclosure for "tighter" response but for simplicity's sake...sealed. I had a fosgate p2 12 in my car on both boxes and the ported sounded better than the sealed. even on tight punchy notes. its all about how the box is built with ported. once you get a speaker moving so hard that its possible to make tinsels slap, you are already kissing "SQ" goodbye. Don't get me wrong, as I smoke Marlboro Reds, but if I saw one more kid with that smug-ass look (Look at me I'm smoking indoors) on their face, I was going to shove that thing so far up someone's ass that they'd look like a hillbilly trying to understand quantitative prediction theorem. Jessica Posted February 4, 2014 Report Share Posted February 4, 2014 i agree on sealed for the sole reason of lack of experience. I have a ported enclosure and i can play double kick very well on it. Nice and tight no muddiness. But it can play booming lows in stuff like dub and rap very well too. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside.
