I can't take credit for this idea, it was one of Meade's from a while back...test two amps on the Amp Dyno head to head!

Since I'm all about the old school amps, I decided to throw up two "50 Watt" high-current cheater amps from the late 90's on the Dyno. The Orion 225 HCCA vs. MTX Thunder 225HO. Both rated at 400x1 at 1 ohm...which one is more underrated? Would you put your $ on Red or Black?

Check it out!

Nice ! Fun video. I had my bets on the MTX, I've always liked old school MTX. I guess my 4 channel is gonna be old school eventually, as they stopped making the thunder elite line lol.

I'm sure a lot of people here will see this and be like..."what, that's only 400W..lame". Back in the day, the MTX Thunder 225HO retailed for $580 and the Orion HCCA 225R retailed for $629. These were expensive amps and called "cheaters" because they could be used as 50 watt amps in competitions. You could get three of these amps and fit in the 150W and under competition class and have an advantage as your "actual" output power would be over 1200W for these 3 amps. The rules changed around 2000/2001, so the cheater amp age was essentially over. Just some background, fun times!

I wouldn't have thought old mtx would be better than orion. Have you gotten a chance to test out any of the newer mtx?

I don't really test many new amps, but I'm sure I will in the future. Lots of myths on the Internet about the Orion amps and I'll soon disprove many

Check with the guy who does Execution Audio and CT Sounds (Coleman Thedinger). He said on Facebook he would test any amp that was sent to him. I can't do this as I just don't have the time and have enough of my own to test to keep me busy for the next year or so
