Rockford Fosgate Punch75 Gen1 Guts and Power Output Tuned with a DD-1

Found another lil gem on eBay the other day.

A Gen1 old school Rockford Fosgate Punch75.

I loaded it with my resistor bank which meters at about 4.1ohms.

Upon measuring the load at the mainboard of the amp, I measured 5ohms.

Looks like the old school "molex" plugs add a bit of resistance themselves.

So during the power tests, the amp was really seeing about a 5ohm load.

I couldn't adjust my resistor bank any lower so this is what I had to go with.

Specs:

37.5W rms @ 4ohms with 0.05% THD.

I tuned the gains right to the point of clipping with my DD-1 so it should be right below 1% THD.

The first channel

A little over 60W :o

Second channel

A little less at 52W

I'm sure measuring at 1% THD will increase the power output but this lil guy is definitely underrated!

Such cool stuff man. Makes me want to try all this, I would need a Oscope and a resistor bank. Oscope would be the most expensive, need to compare it to a AD-1 lol

fuck the plating. look at what the main metal used is. you could buy unicorn blood plated terminals but if its just covering up dog shit, whats the point

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

Yep, I LOVE being able to buy and play around with these amps that got me hooked into this hobby. :D

If you already have an oscope then stuff like this is easy, but you don't necessarily need one.

You also don't need an AD-1 for old school amps since most are 500W or less which can be inexpensively done with a bank of power resistors.

An AMM-1 would replace the oscope and DD-1 for something like this.

It was designed for a real-world reactive setup, but will work just fine on a resistive load as well.

I have two 150 like that and paid way to much but I just had to have them. That 75 look is pure damn mint. Great fine sir. Love the oldschool Rockford. I kick myself in the ass everyday saleing my old power 1000. Paid never every penny of 3000 dollars. Wish I could hit a button that I could redo things in time yes lol. When I learn to post picture I will. I have a picture with me and my old baby.
