Daniel Joseph Bragenzer Bond
hello everyone. I recently had a small short out under my hood. The fuse holder in-between my front and rear batteries came in contact with the battery tray. Shorting out. melted the fuse holder into a ball of goo. luckally it put itself out from all the melting rubber from the 0 gauage cable. Now, all i have done is.. cut off the section of burnt cable and replace the fuse holder. But now i have voltage problems. I used to only drop to 13.1v before the misshap. Now i have drops to 11.1v all the time. sometimes even drop to 10.5v whitch shuts my amp down putting it into protection mode. boo. this is what i have. DC power alt 320amp, 2 kinetik hc800 under hood, 2 kinetik hc2400b in the trunk. rockford fosgate 0 gauge cable(one run front to back + side) grounded to the uni-body. Amp is a MA Audio HK4000D pushing two 15" RE Audio XXX. So, My question is... Is my once burnt cable possibly the problem? Or maybe a cell went bad? or both? How and where can i get these batteries tested? Auto zone test is not accurate.
Kranny
get an agm battery charger and charge the batteries up individually. take the charger off and wait 24 hours. use a dmm to see voltage. if its lower than 12.6, the battery is gone. Daniel Joseph Bragenzer Bond
I have'nt tested them individually. But with them all hooked up and the car off for 24 hours. my resting voltage is at 12.8V on my smd vm-
Daniel Joseph Bragenzer Bond
could it be just my cable causing the problem?
poorfish88
Wow this a hard one, did you check the wire, or did you go by the parts you can see. All fuse holder and dist block should be checked. If the batts are good it's got to be the wire of dist blocks.
MECHMAN
It is possible to have a weak or dying diode in the alternator after the short. 1-888-MECHMAN www.Mechman.com [email protected]
Daniel Joseph Bragenzer Bond
Here is another weird thing. When the outside temp is 60 degrees or less, everything plays fine at full volume. but when the temp gets above 60 then my bass amp shuts off at half volume. I'm Going to replace my power cable from the front batts to the rear batts this weekend. I hope it helps. Summer is here . And I cant bang! Bump4life
sounds like a broken alternator or battery. you need to check each battery individually isolated from the others. also if your battery went bad this can cause the alternator to fail. but thats usually only in 1 battery systems where. but if your fuse melted and isolated your 2 front bats which went bad then that could cause alt failure. check batts first, then if those check out it is your alternator rectifier. Daniel Joseph Bragenzer Bond
Front batteries tested today. 2- kinetik hc800's. Should be around 1800 amps. came back on test as 515 amp between the two. My guess is ..these are toast ! Resting voltage was 13.1. Alt was also tested. came back good. I really hope my 2 kinetik HC2400's in the trunck are ok. testing them this weekend.
Bump4life
you didnt test the batteries seperate from one another?
