The active balancing is just keeping each cap the same voltage in the stack of 6. That is what the circuit board is doing yes, active vs passive, passive is on all the time, active is only on when voltage is high and making the circuit ACTIVE.

Balancing helps greatly extend the life of the cap. According to the maxwell engineer I talked to last week, my bank will last 15 to 20 years.

In my testing I also saw balancing as benefit in dynamic music, vs in a burp application I saw NO gain.

Where do you buy these microchips? I also bought my caps from Chris.

Digikey for active ones, mouser for passive, also ebay for passive. I got mine from digikey

I can't find them, do you have a link?

Don't. Drop. The wrench.

I would have been sweating like crazy hooking that up. Probably would have busted out the plastic tools or dipped some in rubber. Damn. All big banks make me nervous like that, whether it's batteries or caps, even after all these years.

Well done and congrats on your success. Great build and a lot of talent.

Static drops are my bag.

Thanks Capt. Obvious.

But even the potential energy there still gives me the HJs. Not 100% up to speed on the Maxwells, but I have a 25 year old Streetwires 1 farad that sits at 2.7 volts to this day (20 volt cap) unless I leave it shorted all the time. Drain it to 0 and two weeks later it will have energy. Crazy. Even if there are shorting measures in place while I'm hooking things up it still makes me sweat. Rational or not.

Static drops are my bag.

video of these things in action. is ur voltage much more stabilized now? does voltage even move lol?

I put a video up on my facebook page a few days ago, and voltage ONLY moves if I play below 35 hz and clipped at idle, I can make it drop a few tenths from 14.8 V

Just 14 volt right now until I isolate the starting battery. That is right, ONLY 1 battery in the truck now for 30+kW power ;)

You think those HDC4s are going to be able to handle those 3500s at 16v?

YES, they took it like a champ, 4 hours of testing today for both finals, truck is munch lound!!!!
