SnowDrifter
Holy shit, I love this. Seriously hit me with wall after wall of tech info. I love reading this stuff and soaking it up. I feel like I go over people's heads sometimes so I love being taught things You'll get along great here There are LOTS of VERY smart people here on SMD. Great place to stick around if you want to learn. Tony D'Amore does periodic teaching videos in the D'Amore Engineering section. Tony Candela does this fun thing where he'll ask you to prove or disprove something with hard facts. Really forces you to think clearly vs. jumping to conclusions. TheMonolith2001
Haha alright, I think I got a little ahead of myself While this is definitley useful information that should be read it is a lot more entry level than I had thought at first glance. Haven't you posted this before? If you don't understand these basic things before messing with caps you definitley shouldn't be. You can and probably will break things/hurt yourself. You reccomend 100-200 farads for every 1000w of power. Since I am running around 1500w, to save money it seems like I should go with bcap1200s instead of bcap3000s. alaskanzx5
6 1200 in series is 200farads pending voltage of them you might need 6-9 in series to make it handle a 12v system. At 8 it would only be 150 farada. Your better off with a bank of 6 bcap3000 in series. Then you have room for up to another 1000watts roughly with snows suggested 100farads/1000watts. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz. Bump4life
I did just check every thing and the resistor to use is a 27 ohm. resistor. 2 watt. Each time constant is 20 hours. that is using the parallel series hookup though. regardless, caps are awesome. I get them all monday so we will see where it goes. Bump4life
also it never hurts to have more. plus amperage ratings on bcap 3000 are more than the smaller ones to handle peak draws better. TheMonolith2001
ehh, alright fine. I am just trying to be a cheapass and save money. I don't honestly see an amp upgrade in my future because then I have to get into a major electrical overhaul. If I want to get louder the plan is 2X15s with higher box tuning. So THIS is the all in one lazy solution, right? http://www.ebay.com/itm/6X-3000F-2-7V-Maxwell-ultracapacitor-super-farad-capacitor-booster-cap-BCAP3000-/251472523845?pt=Battery_Chargers&hash=item3a8cee3245 That seems like decent pricing as well. TheMonolith2001
Would you be able to get me all those bits to hold it together and the balancing circuits as well?
Bump4life
Would you be able to get me all those bits to hold it together and the balancing circuits as well? i could get them yes. but i would reccommend passive balancing circuits for car audio application. active balancing only kicks in and protects from overcharge. otherwise at lower voltages they wont balance. pm me if seriously interested. Swordlordboy1234
Snow can you visit the parisitic draw thing again? If you have batteries front and rear and you had a smaller sized bank of caps, not like AMI or bump4life, how many days could your car sit with out starting or being on a charger? Obviously an estimate. Days Week Weeks Month...? Wouldn't the batteries hold the voltage up high enough for a unassisted start even after a few weeks? Asssiuming its 12v batteries. Say a d2400/3400 up front and a d3100 or two in the back. I figured that would cover most smaller builds electrical. Also, would that parisitic draw if left for weeks with out a charger or start damage the batteries and / or lower the resting voltage?
