Sutliff
I have a 2003 Monte Carlo SS, ... 3.8L w/ 55,000 miles on it, & has never seen a single snowflake, nor the accompanying "salt 'n cinders" here in Central New York. The Problem: The PASS side DRL (high beam's on this car) runs dimmer than the DRIV side. When I use high beams, they work flawlessly, ... &, yes, they are identical bulbs - Philips Diamond Vision 5000K 9005/HB3's. During the day, I chocked tires, & applied the parking brake, then put it in gear to activate the DRL's. I took the DRIV side bulb out, & used a DMM to measure voltage right at the fixture, & it read just shy of 6v ... appears they run at half-brightness as DRL's, ... then I unplugged the PASS side bulb, ... The DMM read just shy of 3v. I used another DMM to confirm the voltages. What a head-scratcher at that point. I asked some folks in a Monte Carlo Forum I am part of, & someone told me to check a particular relay under the hood. I found the relay with ease in the upper fuse box, & there happened to be an identical relay right above it - that one runs the fuel pump - so I swapped them out to see if the lights would work, & if the relay was bad, then the car would also not start because it would not activate the electronic fuel pump. I hit the key, & the car started. Ugh. ... & the DRL's were still messed up. I grabbed the relay that was running the fuel pump - the one the originally ran the DRL's - & I pulled it out, & the car quit running almost immediately. Relay problem? No, Sir. Anyone have any ideas? I am mechanically inclined, especially when I get Pop involved. Thanks for anything, folks. ProMaxx316
I skimmed through identifix to see if i can find anything about the one light being dim. Came up with nothing. The most i was able to find was about was the blower motor, DRL and HVAC not working, Most fixes was Ignition switch, then body control module, then headlight switch. Last thing i found was a few fixes for highbeams not working, and the fix was cleaning/repairing the grounds for headlights. If it's worth building, it's worth over building. I have never heard of "Identifix" before, ... definitely will check that out for a plethora of things. As far as the other stuff you brought up, everything else on the car works perfectly, & like I said, the bad winter stuff has never had a chance to corrode stuff, etc., ... although I am absolutely cognizant that stuff can still happen, & anyone of those issues you listed could be an issue ... & I am going to start checking through as many of them as I physically can, ... I just know when I take it, IF I have to, to the Chevy Shop, it is clearly elec- trical, & it is right around $96/hour - both diagnostics, & fixing. What I hate is that they really will not tell you (me) what is wrong (& I pay appropriately), & then I take the car & get the parts & fix it myself ... It is always like a big fucking secret, & if your are not going to let them fix it, then you are given info that just has you chasing your tail forever. Ugh. I do not know. But, again, ... I greatly appreciate you replying, Sir. ... & let us see if anyone else does & has a same or different idea, ... ALL are welcome, folks!! truthsayer
I had this issue with my truck, and while i know it;s not the same vehicle, it it was the same problem. (but on drivers side). My issue turned out to be a ground issue. Good luck, i know these type of issues get to be annoying. truthsayer
