So . . . who can guess the size of the woofer in the photo atop my CD player?

30" EV

That's exactly what it is. I'm guessing you blew up the photo enough to see the logo on the dustcap . . .

:woot:

Nope, no manipulation with the photo.

I knew it was bigger then a 24", but wasn't quite a 32".

Did a little investigating and found a pic that looked identical to what you were holding.

;)

Although...I should have known what it was initially...

I traded that to a guy for a Porter Cable 7518 production router (that I no longer have). He built the factory recommended 76 cubic foot vented enclosure for it and it was unbelievable - that thing was moving the roof in the shop ten bays down! Unfortunately, he was running 4x the power to it that it was rated (60 watts) and blew it up in about 30 seconds. I kept telling him . . . dude, easy on the power . . .

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

Yep. Home audio and car audio can be similar. In this case, they're quite different. LONG Ago, McIntosh earned a patent for the bifilar wound output transformer that they call the "Autoformer". McIntosh used them in all tube amplifier designs and achieved far lower distortion than any other manufacturer of the time. When McIntosh engineered their first solid state products, they kept the Autoformers as their engineers had the designs down. Most solid state McIntosh amplifiers have a 2.3 Ohm output impedance and use the Autoformers to perfectly match that to any load.

The MC2300 can make it's rated power when operated in STEREO at .5 Ohms, 1 Ohms, 2 Ohms, 4 Ohms, 8 Ohms, or even 16 Ohms. So, it has a C (Common) and each of the listed outputs on the rear. You just choose the one you need.

When using the MC2300 in mono, you don't bridge it you "strap" it or connect it in "Mono Parallel". So, if you want to run the amp at .25 Ohms mono, no problem - you just connect the Common terminals together and to the negative side of the load and then you connect the .5 Ohm terminals together and connect the load to them. Done.

Keep in mind, the MC2300 was introduced in 1971. Many of them were used to modulate sonar in submarines, battleships, etc. via a special output Autoformer McIntosh made for just that purpose.
