This will be weather sealed up against the bar and fastened down (somehow). This way the ports don't collect water if it does rain or if i hose it out. The box will be waterproofed and THEN bedlined for even more waterproofing.

I can't wait to hear it! Waiting on glue to dry. Ill be back at it tomorrow probably....

Today i decided to wire up the box and test listen BEFORE i go through the trouble of making it look good. Not to happy so far

The 6th order bandpass sounded ok but output is kinda weak. 3" ports have too much turbulance. The box was originally designed with 4" port tubes but i didn't have as much space as i thought with all the different angles. So i dropped to 3's and it looked ok on paper. Anyway, i was feeling kinda bummed so i started redesigning it as a 4th order. Getting bass in the open air is hard, i bet it's 1000 times better in a hatchback car LOL! Even my ported (test bench) box that sounds pretty good doesn't make a lot of bass sitting in the back. Anyway, right now, i am waiting for sealant to dry on the new ports and some of the air leaks i identified. Air leaks can make a drastic difference in BP performance so i am hoping that helps too.

It SHOULD sound good but l might have to rely on the I-beams to reinforce the bass response for those sitting in the vehicle. I put one in each rear seat today so everyone riding gets to feel the bass as well as hear it i THINK the 4th will be better but if it doesn't sound at LEAST good enough to offset the weight i am giving up, i might just leave it out and go full Rockford I-beam and call it done. Those things REALLY sound like bass, with NO woofer. It wouldn't be ME without at least some woofers though. This open air thing sucks ass! I hope my new windshield (coming Tuesday) will trap some of it. I might even consider doing the rear glass too (plexi of course) if that means i can get a LITTLE gain. Time will tell.

Feel free to run the new numbers - I feel its good but after the sealant dry's ill find out.

4th Order

3 chambers.

outside 2 chambers are sealed and about .7 cubes (each) after displacement.

the center chamber is 2.2 cubes after displacement and (4) 3" round ports 8.5" long.

it doesn't have as much bandwith as the 6th did but has a lot more output in it's range.

anyway, i need to take my mind off this stuff for a night and relax. My brain hurts.

So here is the modified 6th that is now a 4th order. Specs a few pages back. It's almost done, possibly the next day or so. Today was a stressful day so i didn't work on it long. But i hope to have great progress tomorrow.

I cut a piece of 3" ABS Port at 3/4" long (the thickness of the MDF) and plugged that hole with the original mdf circle from the original cut out. It was nice and tight and from there i just had to do the body work. A little bit of SMD Sunflash, A little bit of fiberglass matt, a little bit of mud, a little bit of sanding and the outter ports were gone. It's now a 4th order.

I rounded over the outside ones and i have plans to round the inside a little bit even if its just kocking the edge off the tube.

I had to fill the outside edge too because my original top piece got bocked by the bar by JUST ENOUGH to make a lip. No prob i just filled it in and sanded it smooth. Easy.

The box isn't really THAT tall when all said and done. AND the bed is retained. AND it's EASILY removable for access to the engine hatch below.

This thing sounds good but would sound much better in a car with a trunk or hatch. It is what it is!

I just temporarily plugged some holes in the bed that were whistling from the port air hitting them. It will be pulled off and cleaned up once i am 100% finished.

Of course i used SMD Sunflash (available http://www.wcCarAudio.com and Amazon). Work. Get it right. Open door let light in. Sets up. Shut door. Do it again. You gets no break while waiting on it to dry.

Ive sold almost 4 55 Gallon Drums of it so far so people really love it. I know i do.

Also just got my Cool Flo 2 piece windshield

it will be real nice if i am behind someone kicking up a lot of dust! Plus it is quick release so i can take the top off if i am in the dunes or just the bottom if i want air flow and STILL no dust...it is actually designed to flow dirt away from the cabin. I got dusted out at Chicken Hill last week so this is a must

Just realized it is exactly 14 minutes. It was SO MUCH WORK to build this AND film for a week AND come home and edit.....so please, take the time to watch it all Hopefully it is interesting enough to keep you onboard the entire time And it's STILL not done!

When doing a plexi-window, it is usually a good idea to paint a black border on the INSIDE of the glass to prevent being able to see the ugly weather stripping.

Any black will do. Even a 99 cent rattle can. I used some SEM product i had but a cheap can will do the same.

I was trying to think of a good way to make handles for the box so there is something to grip when installing, removing the box. I came up with this. These are grab handles from the local auto parts store. They start out chrome but i am going to color match them.

Even though this strip is RGB and able to do any color imaginable, i still only plan on leaving it orange full time. But it needed to be RGB for me to match it properly. Anyhow, here is a few more pics of the progress.

in all reality, i should have cut this groove before i peeled the protective layer off the window. Next best thing, good old blue tape. A few passes on the table saw gives me a nice place to drop the LED strip.
