help with voltage drop after upgraded alt and battery.

Recommended Posts

I have the Xs power 12V AGM intellicharger so should I take the battery out and charge it again then let it rest for a day and check the voltage? This is a brand new battery so hopefully it's not bad

Are you getting so much drop - per se, at night - that you notice your headlights & dashboard lights are dimming like a MF'er?

Well when it drops its more of a random drops the truck does a small shake like vrum and the voltage drops the lights on the dash dim for about a sec or 2 I haven't noticed the headlights to dim but they do dim bad when I roll the Windows up

yep same thing mine used to do with the windows rolling up and dropping voltage. can't believe dc didn't explain the pcm thing to you. i used to be able to drop voltage by grabbing the window tab,and the window was already up, truck would actually shake a little.

Mind me asking what all exactly you did to Solve that problem did you use the mla module?

Got rid of the crappy flooded acid BAT that was in there, & got a XS 3400. Then took out my admittedly shitty 4awg runs of POS & NEG and went with 2awg welding cable ... That helped quite a bit, but still had the issue enough were it bothered me.

So I went with a XS D975 in the trunk, & I had coiled up enough 2awg under the seats in case I ever needed to do something nutty, that I had plenty to reach to the back. Then I ran Sky High 1/0awg from the 975 to the distribution blocks for the amps, & kept everything after than Knu Konceptz 4awg OFC.

I am pretty much set now. If you have a few, read through my Build Log, ... it shows every step I went through to address the problems along the way, photos & explainations galore!

PS: Oh, yeah ... I went from a MechMan 170A ALT to a MechMan 240A, too

i didn't do the mla module, it cost more than i was willing to pay. i got an internally regulated alternator from singer set at 14.8 that runs of a relay to bypass the pcm. I'm pretty sure dc can do the same.its just messed up you already have it,and they didn't explain this to you.unless you ordered online without contacting them first.

I also changed over from an all circuit breaker system to an all ANL fuse system, ... primarily because I could not find a decent looking 300A breaker for under the hood. I was using Fosgate breakers, & their 200A I had been using with the 170A ALT was not going to cut it anymore.

I know changing "protection" type did not do anything, but I am just thinking of everything I did after I had my problems, which started after I installed two power-hunger RF amps.

At idle, my Mech charges at 14.7+, at higher RPMs, it will tick the 15.1v LED on my SMD VM-1. Even after everything is nice and hot, it never drops below 14.6v on charge ... on both VM-1 & two DMMs.

Yup that's exactly what I did but when I received my alternator it had a different plug so DC Power told me to send it back and they changed it out to a direct plug n play

I plan on getting a second battery as my Tahoe has another battery tray on the passenger side but I don't want to get it yet if this issue isn't fixed

I NEVER expected the auxiliary BATT deal either, ... especially when the system is only 900w RMS ... but I am told these power-hungry RF amp want good electrical, & one is wired to 1-Ohm, & a very higher-up from a very respected (Paid Advertiser) company here on SMD, & I have their product on my car, "stated" that RF underrates so much, that what I have is more like 1,400-1,600w, ... this was after I told him the RF Birth Sheets say that my system effectively is 1,115w, as I have it wired. Now that blew my mind, & I began to understand why the 2awg just was not enough to feed them from the D3400, & the 240A ALT behind it.
