your gauge on the dash is pretty accurate. the computer is not going to let your alternator perform nearly as well as it can.when i put my singer alternator in i didn't need a different belt or tensioner,dc may be different idk.all i can tell you is its not the alternator,it is the pcm. i dealt with this same thing for 4 years ,and i just dealt with constant voltage drop, lights dimming ect.contact dc and ask them about your truck being pcm controlled, and they will confirm your problem. i finally got tired of this problem and simply bypassed the pcm,now I'm at 14.8 all the time. your gonna need this and an extra battery for that amp.

just google mla module and call the number.the mla will trick your pcm into charging mode, they quoted me a couple hundred dollars for my truck.so i chose internally regulated alternator,it was included with my order.only thing with bypassing the stock plug is the battery light will light up on the dash. i thought this would bother me at first, but it doesn't. truck runs great with no problems and i haven't dropped under 14 since

Is there a way to test what my alternator is putting out?

Yes, ... find a place, like an starter & alternator shop in your area that has a Sun VAT45 machine, or the like, & they can test it ... usually while it is right on your car. Will give amp output & volts, etc.

You should get a printout like I did here back last year when I had a 170A MechMan in, now the 240A in, ... gotta take it back & see what it actually does with the MUCH better "Big 3" ...

That testing was done with nothing on, ... no system on, or major current draw ... Next time, with the 240A, I will use the system a bit & put some stress on it ...

kyle im going to fucking kill you. have your boy build an alt for his truck and see what happens..... same thing. the alt is controlled by the computer of the vehicle. it will turn off completely at times. it has nothing to do with the alt. its to "save fuel economy". you can thank GM for that
