ROLEXrifleman
As far as I'm concerned it appears that this amp is a bust. It took dynamic reading to come close to rated and a " power adder" had to be used. As big d put it, the turbo EQ button. This test proves what I've been scared of for some time now. The amp dyno is going to crush some of us old school guys by deflating our memories. This is like telling someone there is no Santa clause. Put a series vii or VIII hifonucs of the ad-1 and show me it doesn't do 25% over rated on certified mode and I just may comit suicide Rolex you sicken me. Nice test though! she made some extra power for sure ?? Thats what i was also wanting to see?!?!? EDIT- And hey BigD, why does the voltage not tank at all? It drops like .07 of a volt? Normally i see dyno runs pull down around lower 13's?!?!? Or am i high? (Is that due to the BURST testing? ) Great vids as always BigD. Nice test though! she made some extra power for sure Yeah, the cert and uncert tests didn't really jump all that much. Only the burst mode tests seemed to make a difference, but these show how the amp can handle speakers, so it should be considered, right? I was still BUMMED. Like Kylar96 said, it was a real eye opener as I thought it would kill 1kW certified on the Dyno. Normally i see dyno runs pull down around lower 13's?!?!? Or am i high? (Is that due to the BURST testing? ) The dynamic test doesn't drop the voltage all that much b/c it uses quick pulses to determine wattage. I ran these tests around 15V, b/c I knew if I did 13.5 or so I'd hear people scream "these amps need more voltage". Simply not true. The power supplies in many HCCA amps are regulated and do not benefit with voltages over 14 See my videos on YouTube http://www.willistonaudio.com Many tests and demos of OLD and NEW SCHOOL car audio gear! That being said, the VII and VIII Hifonics seeming very powerful compared to a lot of other stuff rated the same more begs the question how over-rated most of the other stuff was in that era to which we were comparing it. Also I'd like to add that a 20% difference in output power at different frequencies is absolutely terrible. I really expected better for all the hype they put around these things.... though I'll still say I don't regret the years I ran the two smaller red ones.
