Here's my 1992 Camaro Z28. I've been building this for about 3 years now and here's how the car looks looks like today. I bought the car with only 62,000 miles on it, so it's very solid. Currently, my setup consists of the following:

  • Alpine Head Unit
  • Clarion EQS746 EQ
  • Hertz HSK165XL's for front
  • Hertz HSK165XL's for rear
  • Fosgate T600-4 for Mids & Highs
  • (2) Fi Audio Q12's Hi QTS Loaded Running Sealed
  • Two Old School Fosgate Punch 200x2 wired to 2ohm Bridged
  • Mechman 370A Alternator
  • Single AGM Battery up front
  • 19'' Wheels by AutoArt
  • Hankook Tires
  • New paint

I'll be posting some pictures of the build that I've collected.

The plan is to mount the amp where the spare tire would usually go. I made a standard board that mounts via threaded rod to the vehicles structure.

Here's the area where the amp and Hertz crossovers will go.

Started with cardboard

I also bought some QLogix Kick Panels seen in this picture. I wasn't ready to make them from scratch, so I bought these to start with. I added some Second Skin Damplifier Pro to the backs of them.

Custom grill I made using MDF and grill cloth. The grill is held on using magnets that stick to the mounting screws of the mids. If I had to do it again, I'd make them a little thinner. I think these

Here's the rear speakers mounted. These mids are normally concealed by the factory grill, but unfortunately, I don't have a picture of that.

No subs as of yet. I didn't want to slap something together before I could do it right, so the rear looked like this for quite a while.

So I ended up using this setup for about a year. The Hertz mids/highs sound amazing. I read up quite a bit on them and noticed that other people really liked them, but these definitely exceeded my expectations. Overall, I was really satisfied with the system at this point.

I ended up buying about 90sft of Damplifier Pro and a lot of Luxery Liner Pro and pulled out the interior.

I found out the apparently one of the previous owners must have had a system in here beforehand. I found Great Stuff sprayed everywhere and also some remains of some Dynamat. When I purchased the car, the stereo was back to factory components. I took me forever to remove all the Great Stuff and old Dynamat so I could apply the Second Skin products.

I also found out where a strong odor of fuel was coming from in the interior. Apparently, a previous owner swapped out the fuel pump by cutting into the sheet metal in the rear for access. Normally, one has to drop the fuel tank from under the car to do so, which is a ton of work. At least I found the source of the fuel smell

I ended up deciding on repainting the car. I was never really happy with the teal color. I thought it may grow on me, but it never did. The teal was also a garage paint job by a previous owner. They repainted it due to the GM clear coat issue that some of these cars had. So, due to the color change, we pulled out the engine so the engine compartment could be painted.
