Adblock really helps because some websites do not regulate their ad's to keep their viewers safe. Some of those ad's had the ability to give you malware, run a key logger, and run all kinds of stupid crap in the background. I used to visit a website pretty frequently for a game guide and it was a VERY popular one, but they had all kinds of ad's that were focused around trying to steal your password or forcing more ad's onto your machine. I've also noticed a trend of many websites that allow free software downloads will make you run through hoops... If you are not familiar with it, you can click on a malicious link that looked like the download button for the software you wanted because the website does not regulate their pages ad's. I used to deal with stuff like this when I worked for a ISP company where I focused on small business customers.

For the OP, a virus protection program would also be very helpful. Bitdefender seems to be one of the leading free ones you can download right now:

Here is some more information if you are looking at purchasing one:

I used to use Avast, but it started to get annoying with some of the games I play... Also, the free version doesn't last as long as it used to.

I'd recommend getting Kaspersky if you are going to buy one.

Or he could fix the problem rather than just trying to cover it up.

You got a fix? Rather than offering up something lame like the safest version of sex is abstinence.

Actually, it stops the problem from ever happening. Getting rid of malware requires something like this:

I don't which is why I didn't pretend like I could help him. But I did want him to know that following your advice wouldn't help him any.

I was directing my post to the OP, but you are welcome if it did provide you with some insight.
