8th gen civic guys get in here!

Recommended Posts

Recently installed a mechman 240. At first I used the stock size belt (alt has an overdrive pulley)

Alt charged way lower than normal (13.8-13.6)

Bought a new belt and put that in. Now charging a bit higher (13.8-14) but the charging light is still on...

My questions are:

1) does anyone who owns/work with this generation of civic have a similar issue when installing a high output alt?

2) what did your car charge at cold and warmed up?

Thanks for the info!!!

Wonder why this light is coming on. Anything I could troubleshoot?

Also, any idea what your overall voltage is looking like with the car on? Warm or cold doesn't really matter

I don't know what you could troubleshoot. Also now that I thought about it, when I first installed my alt, the light came on and stayed on, so I change my starting battery and it went off. Now it just flickers every once in a while, I think it may have flashed once or twice last month.

I'll check out the voltage tomorrow.

Mine charges at 14.42 hot at idle

edit: took another reading and it was 14.38

One thing to be aware of with 8th gen civic as well as any other newer Hondas is the ELD (Electrical Load Detector)

this is a small module in your cars charging system that limits charging voltage. something about feul economy or some shit like that.

here is a tutorial adam did a while back on bypassing it for a older gens
