Joey5395
I have a kicker zx 750.1 that's running a alpine type r swr-1242D and it keeps going into protection mode. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this? Would I need to get a bigger amp?
MrSkippyJ
lots of possible causes. Does it go into protect without the sub hooked up? Up plug the drivers and see if it stays on. If it does, check subs/coils SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
Joey5395
When the sub is unplugged the amp is fine. The amp would occasionally go into protection with my rfd 2112 but not as much as the swr- 1242D.
Loaferboy
Is that Alpine a dual 2 voice coil sub? If so, that is the problem. The 750.1 is only stable to 2 ohms. So, I don't have anything cool here yet. It's no big deal
Joey5395
Yeah it's a 4ohm dvc, it's wired at 2ohms
Kyblack76
seems the amp is not the issue .... SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
MrSkippyJ
seems the amp is not the issue .... this OP, turn the amp off, then unplug RCA cables and see if it still goes into protect. If it does, check the subs coils with a DMM and see if that checks out OK. rockFord_Expedition
Does it protect at any volume or just when you wang on it? Take your voltage at the amp with a good DMM. Also, where and how is this amp mounted? Does it have room to breathe?
