XS Power

Recommended Posts

I think for me the part that makes me nervous is the unknown. The fact that I don't completely understand them. How do you know how many you need, etc? Do you replace batteries with them, or if you had batteries would you run them along with those batteries? Stuff like that. If you're replacing a battery with these, say you had a D7500, how many would you need to equal that?

I won't like, I saw this on facebook yesterday too, and I thought "hm xs power came out with an energy drink". You know like NOS did. LOL

OH RIGHT, Like none of you thought the same thing!!! :peepwall:

The usual supercap used is the Maxwell 3000F 2.7V.

6 are required in series to be able to function in a 14V vehicle environment.

The 3000F Maxwells are rated each at about 200A of max continuous current draw.

Current in series is the same so a bank of 6 are still restricted to that ~200A (max continuous). 1900A peak.

So to be safe, you'd want at least one bank for every 200A of current your system consumes.

If you have an amp which draws 1000A, then 1000/200=5 banks would give you a very safe buffer.

More banks will naturally give you more energy capacity.

It's difficult to do an apples-apples comparison of batteries to caps as they are very different creatures.

Batteries store TONS of energy while caps can store and release current very quickly.

It also depends on what you use them for....burping or demoing.

If in doubt..........just get 32 banks (192 caps) like AMI has.... :shok:

;)

Yes, that's the ticket. Here let me just get out my check book and pay for that with my State Office Tech Salary! SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure we'll be talking more about this at some point.

thank you for saying this. i see people asking if adding 1 bank would help their 6k system. well sure it will help, but you are gunna be taxing that bank to the max aka, drawing more than 200 amps, thus reduce life and possibly causing a hazard.

anyways, these caps should be interesting, and i highly doubt these are made in the USA. if they are, and are reasonably price they may have something. I hope they do have something here, protection circuits could be nice. i wonder if passive or active. also a waiver to use? lol. tuned in to see this play out.

So, both Maxwell and Ioxus have preassembled banks exactly like they are proposing. Curious to see if they are going to be doing something different, lower price, better casing, anything really. Hope it's not just a sticker with markup, which I don't necessarily expect.

"Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.

dont get your hopes up. i doubt xs power has the resources to make their own design. my only hope is they have enough resources to buy in extreme bulk to lower cost in addition to being a competitor in the market. also their r and d would have had to been at this for a few years now to be able to release a product.

edit: let me clarify,i doubt xs power be able to design own caps, sure they could come up with a way to put them together and package them, but the caps internally will be from one of the big guys, (i hope). i doubt xs power would put out a poor product.

I don't think xs making these will help prices any. I mean they business model is "whatever the market will bear" you don't see any $90 g34 xs batteries.

even 40 dollars a cap new instead of 50-60 would be more bearable.

I doubt they would come out with a cheaper product if people are paying that money for the maxwell caps they would surely pay the same or more for nicely packaged Xs power product.

I think so not only because of the customer service but because they have built a huge name for themselves in the car audio community.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Thats what I was thinking. Plus they're going to be selling them in banks with protection circuits so I bet that will drive the price up some too.

It's like rubbing your wiener up against a sheep.

they wont be cheap. they are assembling them. it will still be cheaper to do the work yourself and assemble them yourself. this will benefit people that dont know what their doing, dont want to take the time to know what their doing, or arent smart enough to know what their doing.
