2,000 watts to play with, what subwoofer for daily driver ?

Recommended Posts

I'm getting a 270A alternator, XS D3400 battery under the hood and big three wiring along with a proper 2K amp.

What options does sundown have for 2,000 watts as a daily driver ? I did some research and it seems like anything above the SA series is a lowend monster which I can't pull off (don't have dedicated mids so the cuttoff will be too large).

Does sundown offer anything (possibly custom) that I can use as a daily driver in the 2,000 watt range ?

The Zv4 is 1750wrms, which will take 2kw all day long.... or you can get the NSv3 which is rated for 2500wrms, but can take a good amount more.

For daily, and your power, I would probably get the Zv4.

Is the Zv4 well rounded ? I was looking at the X series but a dealer told me that it murders the lows but doesn't offer much in the midbass area (40-60hz) which would result in a huge cutoff from my components to substage.

If the Zv4 is more well rounded then that would be good (my previous sub was sundown and I wouldn't mind staying with them if the price isn't too bad).

zv4's and x's sound the same. with that power I would go with the zv4. My van plays 8-60 hz and has no problems in the 40-60 range

Your build will depend on how well built you box is. The reason is impedance rise. A 2000w amp will underpower a zv4 unless you have completely no rise. So perfect sub to match that amp would be the X series. Though you could also get the zv4 then work on building an efficient box. So if you gat space get the zv4

Sounds like your dealer doesn't know what he is talking about.... What a sub can do is important, but what will make or break what it can do in your vehicle will be the box design.

I have a pair of sa12s in a ram designed enclosure built by a local audio tuned to 31 hz with a 6 inch aero...subs up port firing to the driver side wheel well in the back of my 03 svt focus and they're running off an saz2500 at 1 ohm and they slam the lows hard and play well at least up into the 50-60 hz range havent really tested a lot above that as I've been locked into decaf since I figured out how awesome it is lol. Idk if you are set on a single sub but a pair of sa series subs would be great for what you are looking for it seems. Don't cheap out on your electrical system or your enclosure they make a huge difference in how your equipment will perform. My sas take my sundown 2500 with ease....just make sure gains are set right with a dd1 or oscope and you are golden. Anyone who thinks SAS can't handle 2000-2500 RMS daily hasn't ever used them or tried them. My gains are set properly with my dd1 and I also keep an eye on my clipping light on my bass knob as well just to be safe....I've slammed decaf full tilt for 30-45 min or more straight and the subs barely get warm at all nowhere near hot they're barely above ambient temperature as the most. Just something to think about. I also think a single x would do well in a good box if that would better fit your needs

I've got my SAZ-2000D running my Zv4 12 in a 2.75 cubic foot box (net) @ 31hz.

Sounds awesome and pounds between 25hz - 40hz but will still play up to 50hz it just not very loud compared to say 30hz.
