Andrew Storlie
Single monitor the 960 will be fine you "shouldn't" bottle neck the video card, however the 970 is the better choice if your power supply can run it. I don't ever recommend the low model video card as most people would just be disappointed by its performance. Looking at your pc specs and what the 970 requires I think the 960 would be the safest choice without upgrading other components of the pc. 970 says it will use up to 225 watts 960 says up to 120 watts You having a 550 watt psu I would stay away from a video card that wants half of the total power you have. the 970 will be fine on a 550w... i have a titan x running on an sfx 600w psu from silverstone. RooTxBeeR
As long as the guy isn't doing any overclocking on his CPU or GPU that PSU will power all of that fine. RooTxBeeR
But besides the psu would my 2500k do fine with a 970 That part I do not know. The CPU seems like it isn't THAT old. I have no Idea on if it will bottleneck the GPU or not. You have 4 cores so I don't see why you should have a problem. When ever I have seen someone have a problem it's because the cpu has too few cores and cannot operate at the same pace of the GPU, thus creating a bottleneck. hifonix
Here plug your pc specs into this http://powersupplycalculator.net it will recommend a minimum size psu and it takes into account for fans, HDD's, optical drives etc... things we dont know about your pc that could affect the power To be notedThe results do not include PSU power losses or devices connected to external power sources like monitors and printers. We assume the system has a single monitor attached to the GPU. If you have a multimonitor setup, the results may vary. We assume the system is working in a power saving mode if available. We assume the system fans are temperature controlled. We do not take the system start-up power surge into account. Systems with numerous hard drives may encounter a large start-up power peak. When selecting a proper power supply unit, pay attention to the +12V rail power ratings. Modern computers use the 12V rails to generate most of the voltages in the system. RainStryke
The GTX 960 would work just fine. Here is a solid review on it: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_960_gaming_oc_review,15.html Even though it only has a 128 bit memory interface, it is still adequate. Go for it. That review shows power consumption. You are fine as long as your PSU is more than 350w. These GPU's are perfect for ITX builds with very small power supplies...
