Starting Welder?

Recommended Posts

Im looking to learn/start doing simple welding, like making a simple frame, or legs to stuff and was wondering if there are any other metalworker/welders on here who can steer me in the right direction.

Would be welding steel and nothing else, nothing thicker than your standard 1/8" round or square tube type stuff.

Budget is sort of open, but not planning on spending an arm and leg.

Simple is fine, not going to doing any extensive stuff, just joint work basically. Square pipe frames with legs type stuff.

Duty cycle is more important than brand, if all your going to do is small stuff and a few tack welds than a small 20% duty cycle welder would be all you would need, but if your going to be doing much thicker welding and for longer periods of time then look for something near the 50% mark or greater so you don't over stress the welder.

literally like 4 1" welds at a time type stuff. Nothing major, nothing thick, if it is sheet it will be around 20 gauge.

I just picked up a welder not long ago.

I always told myself whenever i buy one it will be a Miller, or Lincoln at the cheapest.

I bought a Campbell Hausfeld.... yea....

But for what I needed it for so far its working alright, and its pretty much gas ready minus the bottle and gas.
If its something I will get into more I have no problem spending 800ish on a welder but first I want to get practice and know what Im doing before damaging a nicer rig.

This is the one I got, and so far no issues or complaints

that is one of my main concerns with not wanting to buy an expensive welder as my first.
