TRON Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 I have such bad belt slip that the belt squeals when I start the engine, or after the rpm drop after a gear shift. My tensioner and belt is less than a year old. The belt is 3/4 shorter than the stock belt. It has only recently started doing this, I'd say about a month ago. About two weeks ago I tried using belt dressing with no luck, it just made a sticky mess. I am tempted to put the stock pulley on to see if it makes a difference by slowing down he alternator. I don't need good idle output anyway. Quote Avalanche Alpine Type S comps Alpine Type S 10'' Alpine MPR-F300 Alpine MRX-M50 Mechamn 270 XS Power d3400s
Skullz Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Get a tad shorter belt and get either a gates racing if they have one for your vehicle or goodyear gatorback, a gates regular belt will work but not nearly as good the racing one is. Moreno93 Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 I've had really good luck with duralast belts everything else seems to give me nothing but problems 1 Quote
Ahmed Johnson Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 Duralast has been good to me. I'm changing mine today because oil leaked on it. If you need dressing then you probably need a new belt. Quote
SnowDrifter Posted July 12, 2015 Report Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) I change mine every ~3000 miles. Usually pretty well done at that point.you'll see as they wear through, you'll begin to see the grooves "bottom out" against the fabric of the belt along with a shiny appearance within the grooves. If you see that or cracking/fraying, probably time for a new oneFWIW I use a gates HD belt. Seems to be the most stretch resistant out of anything I've used. Others would stretch so bad my tensioner would be almost maxed out and I'd need to tighten it on a weekly basis Edited July 12, 2015 by SnowDrifter 1 Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Broke_Audio_Addict Posted October 13, 2015 Report Posted October 13, 2015 At a parts store that sells gates belts. Quote That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
