Drive ability with mechman

Recommended Posts

Hey members, im thinking about upgrading my alternator to the mechman 270a for my altima but was wondering how the drive ability is. I have an excessive amperage installed now but every now and then when i have to accelerate quickly, the alternator seems to cut out and the car goes limp for a sec until the rpm's drops back down, usually does this above 4500rpms. just wondering if anyone experience this with the mechman alts. Thanks in advance!

This issue can be from a few things.

That almost sounds to me like a belt slip issue on your current alternator.

The belt could be old, and stretched allowing for belt slip.

The Idler pulley could be going weak and not keeping proper tension on the belt.

The belt wrap around the pulley may not be sufficient which could also cause belt slip (especially if the alternator has a tiny under drive pulley on it).

It could also be due to an insanely small under drive pulley on the alternator if its only happening at higher engine RPMs, which with the under drive pulley its making the alternator spin to fast so its out of its operating range.

There shouldn't be this issue with any quality high output alternator in my opinion.

ya try new belt make sure its tight as fuck, belts lengthen over time, post a pic of the belt going around the pulley on ur alternator so we can see ur belt wrap, the more belt u got on pulley the less it will slip
