Beep codes?

Recommended Posts

Anyone good with beep codes? I get this which apparently is memory related

It still boots into Windows fine, bios and Windows can see what ever ram I use be it single dim or dual, 1600 or 1866, 4-16gb it doesn't make a difference. I can't see anything obviously wrong with the dim slots. Any ideas? It's a slightly longer beep followed by what I would call the normal bios beep.

It's a gigabyte MB if that makes any difference running a 4790. I'm not running my gpu yet as it eliminates that being the fault.

Good rule of thump is go by what fuse size is being used in these amps. The higher the more amperage it pulls, this is what I look at.

I'll stick a 300 amp fuse in a potato and sell it to you for $2k.

Okay, so when I restart from Windows (to run a men test and disk test) the angry beep didn't happen. Only the normal beep, both tests came back fine btw

I fixed it

It was my cpu fan.

I went into bios and turned off the cpu fan fail alert and the beep went away. So now I just need to figure out why my MB turns off the fan momentarily on start up

I'm just glad it's not any major hardware although it could be the MB I guess

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

all the makers of the BIOS systems choose different beep codes

any beep that sounds before windows but after the "power on self test" can be tracked down here

http://www.technick.net/public/code/cp_dpage.php?aiocp_dp=guide_beep_codes

all systems make a sound to tell you that post passed... most are 1 long beep

is it something that just started or has it been doing this since you got the computer.... I would say the beep is the warning sound you would get if the fan failed... the only way to test for this in the power on self test is to shut the fan down which it is doing to perform the test then beeps to tell you it failed then promptly starts it back up and beeps once to tell you it passed post.... sounds to me your mainboard is working perfectly fine unless you had this computer for a while and it just started doing this

Its all brand new. It was the fan warning, I'm not sure why the MB tells the fan to start then stop which triggers the MB to think it's failed until the MB realises it's fucked up and turns it back on again. I've tried different fans too

Seeing as it only beeps for a second before the normal post beep I'm just going to leave it

It might be that your fan setting in BIOS are set to auto for PWM/DC and it probably starts in DC and then senses the Noctua is PWN (MOST but not ALL Noctua are pwm so check yours to be sure) and stops to switch so if you can I would poke around and see if you can set it to PWM for the cpu fans.

It is a pwm fan. But the only options I have are auto. Silent. Full. None of them change anything except for the speed once it's booted
