Upgrade from 160a alt to 240a hairpin

Recommended Posts

I ran 8k between my frontstage and subs on my same 240A alt and ~200aH of reverse. Id drop to 11.9, but stay there. At slam fest, i demoed for the greater part of the weekend, and can count on one hand the amount of times i say 11.6 or lower. I wasnt being "careful" either ;)

That seems really reasonable for 8k, what brand of alternator did you have?
Singer.

8k to tweeters and midbass is much different than 8k to a substage.

Why?

There's so much less information in the upper octaves that you're never really using that much power. Not to mention, not sure of anyone who's running straight sine waves at 8kHz, in comparison to basically any song that has a steady bass line.

Of course I'm talking about people saying they have an 8k amp for subs versus an 8k amp for tweeters.

"Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.

The 320 im getting has a turn on of 650rpm.

With the motor you have, i would look for a lower turn on, even if that means giving up some top end. Just my opinion.

What brand of alternator?

Singer also. Lol.

Well dc power makes a 270a, 190A at idle alt for $650 compared to mechmans 240a, 140a at idle for $400. How much more in terms of headroom will the 30a extra with the DC give me? Will they both let me run 5k comfortably?

Out if those, I wouldn't hesitate to run that dc 270. I've seen those do work in person. Great alt there.

Me, I won't run any other. :)

Not that there isn't other great product out there.

Just personal for me and mine. ;)
