Installing 2 more Batts should I keep the cap

Recommended Posts

I fucked around trying to save money and bought a 5 farad cap to run my 2k rms American Bass amp. Have a 140a alternator. This of course has done nothing in helping with keeping my alternator and battery from dropping, sometimes down to 10v which then throws the amp into protect. I am adding 2 large agm batteries next weekend, plus keeping my existing battery up front. Also adding a battery isolator. My question is though is there any reason to continue using the cap off of the 2 new batteries or should I just get rid of it.

Ditch the cap and don't waste any money and isolator because it is not needed at all.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Don't I run a risk of the rear Batts draining the cranking battery during durations of sitting without the isolator?

I had no plans of running the system without the truck running I meant just sitting, my truck sits for weeks at a time because I have a company vehicle

Won't matter but any vehicle left to sit for weeks at a time should be left on a battery charger.

What size power cable do you have from the battery to the amp? The BIG 3 should help a lot. A bigger alt wouldn't hurt either especially with the 2 extra batteries. Doing batteries first might mean you would need to put it on a charger periodically if you are taking out more than the alt puts in.

One of those solar chargers that plugs in the cig lighter would work great. I have one on all my yard toys.

the cap you have it is a really nice looking one with a digital readout.... if so keep using it because its a really great conversation starter...... I have a 2frad cap but its hidden inside the power compartment side of my box so nobody knows its there.... its never helped with anything but im not just going to throw it away...lol.... too bad everyone that reads this will know my dirty secret

I have 1/0 all the way around big 3 done . Yeah I'm looking at getting a 250a alternator they seem pretty reasonably priced.
