Bayuk89
I just bought two SA-18 subs. Im doing a wall build in my truck and looking for typical ported box size and port area (looking for reference when im tweaking the box in my program) I know their rated at 600 rms but i hear people throw MUCH more, so would 1k each sub be more realistic ? reedal
5-6ft^3 net would be normal enclosure size on rated power. The people that feed subwoofers more than rated power typically have enclosures that are smaller than what is recommended, in order to maintain control of the woofer's excursion. So if you want to throw 1k to woofer's you just bought (when you were contemplating whether it was worth to drop the extra cash for a second one), be aware that woofer's are given power ratings for a reason. Ignoring the mechanical control aspect of it, there's also thermal capacity of the coil. More power = more heat. There's a limit to how much power the coil will make use of before it is just dissipated into heat. More heat = earlier failure. Some will tell you to go ahead and run more power to them, I say if you want to run 1k to each, you should have bought 1k woofer's. Stick with 600 to each, in the proper sized enclosure, and enjoy a long life from them. But that's just me good luck Quote SMD Tool Map https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/193176-smd-tool-map-new-november-2014/ Build log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/197217-reeds-03-tahoe-hat-sqaq-singer-xs-shca-cockbox-80prs/?page=

Triticum Agricolam
+1 to what Reedal said. Also, another thing to keep in mind is running a sub on a 1000 watt amp, and actually putting 1000 watts to it aren't the same thing. How much power its actually getting and the overall power handling of a sub are incredibly situationally dependant, which is one of the reasons SOME people can get away with putting what seems like a lot more than RMS power to a sub. ShadeTreeMechanic
Some guys bang them until they can smell them. I have smelled my HDC315s a few times. I have learned how to keep them in the "safe zone" so maybe they won't die any time soon. Can't wait to see your build! I would love to do a wall. Maybe some day.
