Mechman Alternators

Will the stock pulley have the correct alignment?

Recommended Posts

I've been struggling with belt slip for a few months now, and I can't seem to narrow it down. I've tried using shorter Gates' belts and replacing the tensioner, cleaning the pulley, but it seems that after a week, the alt is covered in belt dust again and squeals when the engine upshifts.

So I threw my stock alternator on and it was fine. I still have it on and after a 3 weeks its hasn't shown any signs of slip. So I want to try putting the stock pulley on the Mechman but i'm unsure if the stock pulley with have the correct alignment.

Also will the alternator even turn on if its idling slower with the stock pulley? I'm not concerned about not making full amperage at idle, however.

This would be something much easier discussed by giving us a call at 888 MECHMAN x202.

What vehicle, engine size, pulley type, and alternator size do you have.

I have a 2007 Chevy Avalanche with the 5.3l engine. My alternator is the 270a, I can't say about the pulley size though.

changing the pulley to stock size might render the alt useless at idle and you will have to rev the engine higher to get the rated amperage

you need to look at the belt wrap around the alternator.. you might have to add a pulley to give it better belt wrap

Call Mechman but I would change the pulley back, it's that size for a reason. I know that it is smaller than stock. weird you have belt slip though, I had Mechman 370 Elite in factory place for a year and no slip then a DC Power dual bracket with the Mechman and no slip then the DC Power dual bracket and factory alt for a year and no slip.

Maybe need new tensioner? smaller belt? IDK.....

I used gates belt also
