Why fuse the alt, unless you use two?

300 amp final answer lol. Really 150-300 amp you'd be ok. You want to use at least a 145 amp fuse because that's the most amps your alt is supposed to put out. And you don't want to go over 300 because you have 1/0 ofc. You fuse for the wire so don't go over what it's rated wich is about 300 amps for 1/0 ofc depending on length. If the wire is pinched then you want the fuse to blow instead of your wire catching fire, so if you fuse to high the fuse might not blow and it's as if you didn't fuse it. If you fuse to low then you might keep blowing fuses since the fuse won't be able to handle the current being pulled through it. Hope that helps.

It's an option. They don't come standard because most factory posts have them already. He has explicitly stated its a bad idea to leave it unfused.

What size wire do you have for your big 3?

And yes, it is good practice to fuse the alternator charge wire.

If you fuse over 150A the fuse is pointless ON THE ALTERNATOR END for your application. If the alternator can only put out 145A how in the hell do you guys expect the fuse to do ANYTHING if it's 300A? IT CAN"T!!!! the alternator will just keep pumping out the magic fire pixies at maybe 160A (because of dead short) and shit is gonna fry until the driver realizes shit is frying and shuts the engine off or the rectifier cooks. The 300A fuse belongs at the BATTERY end but even then that is overkill because the wire is only being asked to carry 145A MAX so why fuse to the limit of the wire? All that is going to do is let more magic fire pixies out before the fuse pops.

If the alt has an internal short causing it to output more amperage than its designed to, it's going to fry regardless of the fuse on the output.
